So yesterday I worked an absolutly miserable 12 hr shift. I felt like crap with a sore throat and dizziness all day. I wanted to leave about 2 hrs after I got there but the mgr. couldnt get anyone to come in and take my patients so I had to suck it up and stay. Then my feet started to hurt, not like normal sore feet but the toe joint pain like last time. I woke up this morning and took a shower and "crunch!" it felt like I had a broken toe. So here we go again. I am laying here and I can feel the swelling and throbbing. I have to work 10 hrs tomorrow. I cant miss, if I go and cant stay, well I'll have to stay anyways. I am just so mad right now.
Okay--I'm over it now. I just have to deal, right? Grab that ice pack hon! Sorry about your problems, I work at home and thank god daily for it as i couldn't do outside on my feet due to no ligiments in part of my right foot. I'm only 33, don't want social security yet. Rest it and elevate it all you can. God bless. Sorry you're hurting right now, Crunchy. I hope you get through your shift today without much pain. Can you get into a situation as a private nurse for some rich person? Maybe they could have a pool you could work out in during your luxiourious breaks. Actually, is there something like that? I get driving up my special skills to get a higher hourly rate so that I have to work less hours. I am also trying to reduce my living costs at the same time. Sorry for the pain. Glad you can express it here.
I wish we could all hit the lottery and just do what we want. I
believe being over worked and tired has to add so much to RA.
Have you looked into other kinds of nursing that is less
stressful? Is it even comparable to do other kinds of work
financially?
At this point, I could not do anything and make the pay that I make as a nurse. Not only as a nurse but working per diem. If I were to go full time even with the same company, I would be looking at a /hr cut in pay. If I had the money and/or the time to go back to school that could change but that is only gonna happen if I win the lotto or find a pot of gold under a rainbow somewhere. For now I just have to make it work. Crunchy, here in Ca. there's a state law that requires the hospitals to have so many pts. per nurse. The nurses make good money as the hospital will pay you a sign on bonus. I know of some who make like an hr. I don't know if Texas is like that but working for a registry, you make more money.
The problem with being in the medical field is that there's not enough of us to go around and you wind up with a heavy load and having RA or not feeling well doesn't help you.
Crunchy, God bless you for staying in nursing. It's not a easy job. So rant or vent all you want to. You have every right too!
MarisaCrunchy - I hope you make it through this shift. I have the same toe problems, and when my toe pops (and that's what I call it), I can't walk, so I feel for you. I know the 3 days off will be good for you. Can you get a cortisone shot in the toe? That's what I do, and it does help. Good luck!!
