Kathleen Turner | Arthritis Information

I recently saw Kathleen on a talk show and she dicussed her RA.  She said she did a lot of research and found a great balance.  She never said what it was because she said she is in no way a spokeperson for these medications.  I did some research myself and found she takes embrel, celebrex and low dose antibiotics.  I also wanted to try antibiotics but during my last RD visit my doc said this was an old school approach and the new drugs work better.  I already take embrel, Mtx and relafen.  What would it hurt to add low dose antibiotic? Does anyone take that combo? Does your RD prescribe antibiotics?

Thanks,

Sharon

Ooh its weird that you mention Kathleen Turner, I was wondering just about that the other day. Like what celebrities have RA, and how does it effect their lives. As far as the anti-biotic, ive never heard of that as a treatment but then again im a noob to RA meds and stuff.  Some folks report great results with antibiotic therapy.Personally, I've not tried this myself yet but I beleive it has been around for about 10 years or so. I understand you can get information on this therapy from this website: www.roadback.org , and from time to time folks who have experienced this, post on the boards. Oh darn it, I missed the Kathleen Turner thing.  I too have heard about antibiotic therapy but my doctor is not a fan of it either.  I'm on Relafen and MTX, which seems to be helping.  But I can't help believing that there IS some kind of infectious or microbial cause of RA and if so, why not try antibiotics?  I have mentioned it to my doctor but I haven't insisted on it, mainly because I don't want to second-guess him when what he's doing seems to be helping.  But I will go to my grave wondering about those antibiotics!!!!  Anyone else wonder about that?

They have used antibiotics in the early treatment of reactive arthritis with some apparent success.
