and NUMB.  I went to work this morning.  I pull into the yard to get my truck and the big boss is there.  I didn't think anything about it until I saw the look on his face.  He said I am to take a paid leave from work until they decide what to do with me.  He said I will have to see their doctors and their decision will depend on doctors determination.  I am drained.  I tried so hard.  I don't know what is going to happen but I am scared.  It is so unfair.  I was doing my job.  They are afraid I am going to get a workman's comp. injury.  Anyone can get a workman's comp injury, with or without ra.  I am not thinking straight.  I will check back in when my head clears.

Don't get yourself too worked up...you know what the stress will do.  Use this time to take care of yourself, Roxy.

Kelly

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PEOPLE CARING FOR OTHERS. IT JUST FLOORS ME THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS AFTER 17 YRS YOU SHOULD BE PUT ON LIGHT DUTY. WHEN I LEFT MY JOB LAST SUMMER AFTER 15 YRS MY BOSS HAD THE NERVE TO ASK SOMEBODY THAT I KNOW IF I WAS FAKING IT. THESE PEOPLE JUST DO NOT GET IT HERE YOU ARE DRAGGING YOUR BODY TO WORK AND FORCING YOURSELF TO DO THINGS THAT HURT SO BAD AND NOW THEY DO THIS I AM BEHIND YOU 100% REMEMBER THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON IT WAS TORTURE FOR YOU AT WORK SO JUST SEE WHAT HAPPENS AND GET SOME REST.TERESARoxy - you did your job. It hurt like hell, but you did it. Seems to me they'd better be taking care of you and not causing you more grief, or you have actionable cause. This IS what the disabilities act should protect you from. You have done nothing wrong. You are working in spite of extreme pain. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Keep us posted.

Hi Ya Roxy:  I agree with Kelly this could be a good for you.  Make sure that the Dr. that they're sending you to has copies of your med. chart from your rheumy.  He should have all the information so he can make an intelligent, informed decision.  You should have a copy of the medical chart also.  Did you ask any questions when your boss presented this to you?  How long will you be off, when is the appt., is it with another rheumy, what kind of decision are they looking at?

Have you gone back on Prednisone?  You're going to need all your strength and mental facilities to help you through this and if you haven't gone back on the big "P" you should seriously consider doing so. If you don't have to deal with the pain and swelling then you can concentrate on your employment issues.  You need to take as much control of the situation as you can.  When you have control you have a certain amount of power and that can be used in your favor.  RA is soooooo draining to the spirit and if you can get as pain free as possible that spirit can peek thru.  This all my be good for you but don't let them walk all over you.  You need to be a participant in the plans and actions of your employer.

Roxy, I'm so sorry this happened after you have been struggling so hard to make it through these two weeks.  But I think you should be optimistic about what the final outcome will be.  It may work out very well for you in the end.

Use this paid time off to gather together all of your employent and medical records, x-rays, test results and prepare yourself for the next step.  I would also seek the counsel of an attorney who specializes in this sort of thing.  I think it is a good sign that they want to "decide what to do with you".  It shows that they know that they can't just lay you off or fire you.  They will probably try to use the law to their benefit, you should be prepared and educated so you can do the same.  The fact is, you were there ready to work, and they sent you home.

If you hold onto the goal of proving your case and attaining your goal of accomodations for your disability, it should be easier.  Don't give up or give in.  Fight for yourself they way you would fight for someone you love!  You've certainly proven that you have the grit and determination needed in these past couple of weeks.  You can do this girl!

Oh gosh Roxy, this is heartbreaking news.  You have given it your all Roxy and that is about all you can do. Guess I would not be a good supervisor because I could not do what I am sure he had to do.  He has a job to do and probably a supervisor giving him orders. Life is full of challenges Roxy and we all get out share and hopefully we can learn something from them all so that we can be a stronger person.  If it's any consolation Roxy, everything happens for a reason.  I am sure that you have been told that before, but as time goes on you will come to realize that it's true and when you look back on it all you will be saying HMMMMMMMM, so that 's why it happened.  Hang in there girl, you have what it takes to overcome this bad news.  Seeing an attorney might be a good idea as Hillhoney said.

Luv, Justme  Lots of good advice.  I am now thinking - who knows - this could be good or bad.  I am hoping I can keep my job but they accomodate me but I don't know.  I got a cortisone shot, placquenil and relafin.  RD said give it a week and if I am still in pain, we can do a medpak (I think that is what it is called)  He knows I don't want to go on a daily regime but I would do pred. if I immediately began weaning.  My boss said that it will be 2 or 3 weeks.  They are going to choose an "unbiased" specialist.  I don't want to give him access to my medical records as that would not look good.  I told him this morning that I would like to do my job but not respond to medical emergencies.  We have plenty of emergency personnel.  That is the accomodation I would like.  Anyway, had a good cry, a nap and I am feeling better.  The "order" he gave me is I had to be available at all times during my regular work hours so I can't take the dogs for a walk until after 2:30.  I think this is a good time to look into acupuncture, start yoga again and walk my own dogs.  These last two weeks have let me know what I CAN do and I want to do more.  I have to live in the now.  The thing that hurts is I love my job, I would be elated if it were a job I hated going to

Depending on what your doc says, they might be able to give you a different position that doesn't require too much physical activity.

Plus, if you were supposed to be off of work, then take this time to do it.

Roxy, I also think this could be a good thing, but I understand how hard it is. Since you love what you do, it would be hard to even think of letting it go. Take this paid time to get the rest you need and maybe this unbiased specialist could mean finding a way for you to keep your job, suffer less pain, and still enjoy the work you love so much. It must have been a shock to go into work and have the boss tell you this. Please keep us posted.

Roxy,

So sorry for what you are going through. But if the worse happens, and they say you can't work, it will make it much easier to get Social Security faster.

I know you don't want to do that. But you don't have to stay on it forever. Or, you can get it and work up to a certain amount of income and not be penalized. Eventually, you would get most of your medical paid for.

Now, the problem is how to you pursue your passions. Look at what you love about your job and what you don't. Consider what you are capable of and what you can't do.

You can still fulfill your passions and still help support your family. But don't kill yourself doing it. It may be a kindness in the end and not mean spirited. Or, it could be they are just protecting themselves. But the fact that they are going to pay for a certain time period suggests that someone is concerned for your welfare.

There's been a couple of time my boss has sent me home because she could tell I was just pushing too hard.

That doesn't make it any less frustrating and certainly not less stressful. So take few moments and consider what your heart wants most. Put it down on paper where you can look at it. You may surprise yourself.

Best of luck.

What a day you have had Roxy.  One good thing is it's paid leave so at least while you are waiting for them to get you into their doc take the money and work on getting you to feel better.  I have no idea if this is good news or bad but I have a feeling you and your attitude will turn this to your advantage!  Did you let your union know about this?  I can't believe they can't find a light duty job for you, but I guess they think it makes more sense to pay someone not to work.  I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.  You take care of you and keep us posted.  Hugs and good vibes.  I really don't have any advice to add to what's already been said, except to say that something doesn't seem right. I have a sister with severe crippling in her hands and has had surgeries numerous times. She has steadily held a job for years. She's had to miss work on occasion sometimes a week or more at a time. So to me something doesn't seem right about your situation. I vote you should be able to work but it's not up to me.

I hope it works out though.

Roxy,

Sorry to hear about your job,but if it were me I would be making an appt to see my lawyer. I believe you have rights and by all means fight for them Good Luck Pat

Hi Roxy-so sorry to hear this happened to you. I
know you were giving it your all. Lots of good advie
hear. I agree that although it's an unexpected blow
at first, it may turn out to be good. You can get paid
while taking care of yourself, resting up, and
gathering your thoughts. I think I also agree that it
might be a good idea to talk to a lawyer just so you
are aware of all your rights and options. Take
advantage of this little gift of time you have now.
Hang in there, don't let yourself get too stressed out
and overwhelmed, k?

I can only imagine how difficult this is on you. Try not to forget that EVERYTHING in life happens for a reason. This too my friend is all part of God's plan for you. Try not to let the depression take over at this point.....this is out of your control right now. You've tried as hard as you can; now you just need to wait to see what door opens for you next.

We love you girlfriend.....keep your chin up.

Roxy, independent medical examiners are often BIASED for the insurance companies.  I do work in workman's comp and take opposing doctor testimony as part of my daily work.  I really think you need to just go in there and be honest.  If you are sincere and believable, you have a much better chance with the doctor.  People that go in there fighting usually get worse results.  They have all sorts of ways of seeing if people are malingering.  You should get a fair result if you just go in there and be yourself and forthright.

I wish you luck.  I know you have been trying so hard.  I think you should do all you can and then realize you can't control it all.  I hope you find what you need.  It must be terrible to be dealing with.  I'm so sorry.

edit:  p.s.  You should talk to an attorney.  Find a worker's compensation law attorney and try to get some advice.

Thanks you guys.  I am going to acupuncture today and maybe yoga tonight.  I am getting a couple walls painted in my house.  That always cheers me up so it was perfect timing.  I am feeling much better today, I hope they take their time about this thing because the longer the give me, the healthier I plan to get.  Sorry I freaked everyone.  They took me by surprise.

I have to go now.  Get ready for my friend who is a pro painter, he is giving me a good discount.  I am so excited.  Listen to this - I am painting two walls green and one wall purple.  Hope it works

You sound better today Roxy...that's good

I swear when my children leave home I'm getting a white couch!! It's so pretty.

Thanks Lovie.  Actually though it's more of an ivory colour...the wood along the floor is white, so if you look at that you'll see the difference.  Still is difficult to keep clean when you have 2 dogs and a husband who does a lot of work in the garage and needs constant reminders to take his shoes off before coming back into the house

We don't use that room too often though and of course my children are in their 20's so that helps.

Beautiful home kelstv! Love your style.

I like the white too, it is really nice. I have white carpet in my house and it is in pretty good shape except the area between the kitchen and living room. It is such a high traffic area. Plus the spot in my daugters room where the dog got ahold of a packet of hot cocoa mix which she swears she didnt leave on the floor. A-what is she doing with a pack of instant cocoa mix upstairs in her bedroom? and B-the dog is a teacup chihuahua that cant even jump up onto the couchs or beds! I am just glad that the dog didnt get into it enough to make her sick. I am going to have a fun time shampooing that out though! I could never have white furniture unless it was leather. It would be ruined in less that 24 hours!I really like the carpet and paint job! Kelstev, you have a very beauitful home! I like your taste in furnature too. Thanks Tara, Crunchy and Dar.  Yeah, I am jealous too.  I still have a little one.  It is so much harder to have nice things that you KEEP nice when you have little kids and two dogs.  The kid is a packrat and we are in a constant battle against her stashing things in the couch. ok - Kel I am going to have to take a picture.  I love my green and purple walls.  They are right next to each other and I think they look great.  It is the same purple as yours but a darker green.  It is amazing how color can totally change your frame of mind.  I just sit and admire my walls - lol.  Now I am trying to come up with colors for a wall in the kitchen

mary

Color, color, color.  My whole house is earth tones because I have all nature stuff so now I love adding bits of color.  That is why I want to try mosaics.  I wish we could all get together and do mosaics.  Yes yes yes Mary.  Have to have color.  Art is so fun to pick out, check out those junk stores, thrift stores, yard sales or just nice prints.  I love buying art so much that now I am having to do collages with several pics together
