Tinea Versicolor anyone? | Arthritis Information

Right as I began to get symptoms before i knew it was RA. I broke out into a rash on my back, chest, stomach, arms and neck. Dr. told me it is what they call Tinea Versicolor.  (this doesnt itch, but is changing my skin pigment white in the spots where there used to be a spot). Just wondering if anyone else has had this and if it might be associated with having RA or Fibro.

Thanks all. I just posted a question about rashes--I hadn't seen your question--what did your rash look like, and do you still have it? it looks like small round red or brown spots that is scaly (like dry skin) and it wont go away. no itching. then when it does go away it leaves a white spot.

dr told me to apply selsum blue shampoo on it and make a lather and leave it on for 15 mts then wash off and do that twice a day. Well one problem with that is I live by myself and have no one that can put it on my back for me. It does work if you do it like your supposed to.

i will look for a pic online of it and post it.

Hello,

I have it too. I got it when I was about 15 years old. I finally got rid of it when I went to the dermatologist when I was 20. He gave me some kind of pill that I had to take for 3 days I think. But it has resurfaced again.

I think I read somewhere on the internet that prednisone will cause it too. I am on prednisone and have been since 1999, a low dose 5mg-10mg a day.

Maybe we can get rid of it together!? Hubby won't wash my back for me either so I know how you feel about it. He will only do it when he gets tired of looking at it. Yeah im on prednisone 5mg. a day, have been on prednisone for over a year. Another reason i want off the prednisone if that is what is causing this rash.  Prednisone = weight gain, rash.

Boy this RA sure sounds fun!!  NOT!!!!!!!

Im glad im not alone now.
Thanks Jooniper. :)

Your Welcome!

Well, I forgot to mention that my husband has the "rash", too. I don't think it is contagious. I asked the dermatologist if it was and he told me no. So, we aren't totally alone...lol...a non-RA person has it too, my hubby!! Makes me feel better that he has it as well.

I kow what you mean about the weight gain! But I have been fluctuating with my weight for years. The most I weighted was 162 lbs and that was when I was pregnant. I have dropped down to 154.

KarlaOhio--

I live alone, too.  I don't have the rash, but love having cream spread on my back.  I've devised this method...

Take an old hand towel, and fold it lenghtwise to the width of about three inches.  Put a bunch of cream (or shampoo) along the length of the towel.  Grasp the towel at each end, then draw it back and forth diagonally across your back.  Works like a charm.  You get the cream on your back, and a lovely backscratch at the same time.

OR...

You could get in touch with Esther and have her talk to the shampoo, and get it to jump out of the bottle and rub itself on your back.

I like the OR post.

Anyone have the rash on their legs?  I have it on the front of both legs.  Is it related to RA?
