I just got back some more of my lab test results.... and my thyroid level is high. I was wondering if it had anything to do with my flare?? Has anyone had any trouble with this? I never had any problems with my thyroid before....

No thyroid problems here..just bumping this up to the top for you

What did your doctor say about it?

Google thryoid and rheumatoid arthritis.

there's a lot of technical stuff .. but there are a couple of articles that normal people can read.   the thyroid definately plays a role, altho I dont understand what ....

my doctor keeps checking mine tooo - but thankfully, mine stays normal.

sorry i cant help much more than that.  i dont understand the medical jargon.  maybe you will.

hoping you're feeling better.

ps hypo or hyperthyroidism is considered an autoimmune disorder, once you have one you can more easily get another autoimmune disorder.

What we really need is to become advocates and push for more research for RA and the other diseases that everyone has here- I know that we all get busy and depressed or something comes up but it doesnt take but a couple minutes to mail, call or e-mail your local congress/senatators and insist that they listen to us- now is the time for us to really push- I want my tax dollar going for a cure so I can go back to work instead of sit here everyday writting.

Hi. I am hypo thyroid. I've had it for about 36 yrs. I had 2 misscarriages due to it. I was very lucky, I was able to have a baby after I went on the Synthroid. Now that I have RA, the tiredness is just terrible. They can't up my Synthroid because it gives me fast heartbeats. That has been for as long as I've had hypo.My Prednisone dose was cut to 10 mil. a day. This Prednisone keeps me awake at night. I'm so sleepy, but can't sleep. Like now, it is 3:53am and I can't sleep. I start back on my MTX on Monday. I had to stop taking it, after 2 weeks,I developed a very bad headache. Come to find out , after a sinus cat scan, it was a sinus problem. I saw my Rheumy yesterday & he had to drain my knee, it was so swollen. I will see him again the end of May.

Just wanted to stop in.

Hi to all,  I have very bad thyroid problems.  I had two operations to take out nodules ( I was one of the "radiation" babies from 1947) and the first one I thought did the trick but the good ole doc forgot to take them all out so the next year I  had another.  Not by the same doctor, I had to go to a cancer hospital and had it done.  Now, they have trouble with giving me synthroid to regulate it.  It is crazy.  I am what they are calling a "seasonal" tyroid patient.  For the last 10 years or so, I usually have to change the dose about April and then again around November.  It definitely follows that pattern.  I just had it check and it came back way off the chart and not in a good way either.  I was feeling jittery and forgetting things and hurting like you know what.  Now they have me on a dose to try to get me back in line.  So, yes, the thyroid does play a part in the autoimmune  world.  We think that this was the start of my problems.  If you feel really funny, have them check your thyroid and if they think you are crazy, then so be it but I have found that sometims we need to be our own doctors.  Good luck dyan

Hi Dyan....I just read your post. I thought I was crazy, but around April & Oct.or Nov. I always feel as though I'm going into some sort of sleep coma. I'm so tired, that I fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I always told my Internest & he has thyroid checked, & darn if it isn't out of wack.....lower than usual. He ups my synthroid, then after a month, it starts making me very nervous. Then he reduces the dose. I go thru this twice a year. I can't take as much of synthroid as I need, as it tends to make me very nervous. Now that I have RA, I'm just one BIG sleep coma! lol  Although, this prednisone will not always allow me to sleep. Like last night. I went to bed at 4:45 am & up at 7:30 am. So at this time, I'm very tired & nervous.

Hope you are feeling OK.
