Enbril/MTX & Weight Gain | Arthritis Information

I have been on MTX for 6 months and Enbril since January(4 months). I have put on weight in my mid-section. Has anyone else?? I exercise 6 days a week (3 strenuously). I watch what I eat and I am so thick. It is freaking me out! Does it stop??

are you on prednisone?

thickly yours,
woobie

anyone else??? Does it go away???

MTX slows your metabolism considerably. I eat very little and spend as much time as I can in my yard and garden, and I have started to gain weight since I have been taking MTX about a month ago. I HAVE BEEN ON MXT SINCE JUNE 2005 AND I LOST WEIGHT. BUT AFTER THEY PUT ME ON THE ENBREL I GAINED SOME BUT IT KIND OF SHIFT AROUND TO MAKE MY WAIST THICKER. I STILL DON,T GET AROUND REAL WELL IF I WALK TO MUCH OR STAND TO MUCH MY KNEES SWELLS AND IT MAKES MY BACK HURT.

Good luck to you!

That is so interesting... so dairy does play a role in arthritis? My father keeps telling me to drop dair from my diet. He keeps saying  if I stop drinking milk, everything will go away. I too have a fat stomach that won't quit no matter what I eat or how much I exercise. The hips are heavier too. This is depressing because I never in my life had a weight problem before.  I weighted 95 until I was pregnant with my first child. At 50 I was about 115. Now I try to keep my weight down to 120 and I am small with a tiny frame. I know it's the combination of prednisone, MTX and enbrel. All I can suggest is exercising as much as you can tolerate and watching what you eat.

Dairy - interesting.

What other mammal drinks milk after infancy?   cats - only if you give it to them - they dont need it.  can you think of another?

milk is supposed to be BABIES food.   not adult food.  So what - it has calcuim.  you can get that from a pill now-a-days.   I have always believed that we arent supposed drink milk.   I eat cheese once in a while on a pizza or something,... but other than that - i dont eat dairy or drink it.    Just because I dont like it.

but - that's just me.

been that way all my life, and still have RA........... so - for me - it's not dairy.

woobieDropping dairy has worked for me. I think with any auto-immune disease, it varies from person to person. I know that when I am off caffiene, dairy and eating a primarelly "raw" diet, that I have less inflammation. I still eat meat because my body seems to need the enzymes. I cheat from time to time but that seems fine. My feet are still a little swollen in the morning. The swelling comes down if I exercise in the morning. Good luck to you!I also agree that different foods effect different people differently, so eliminating certain foods definitely can make you feel better or worse, and not effect a different person at all.  For me, it is wheat.  I feel a lot better when I stay away from it.  I haven't tried eliminating milk, since I am doing fine right now.  I eat corn flakes and milk for breakfast, and without the milk, I don't know what I would do.  I detest all the soy and rice etc milks out there!
