Does anyone know anything about what the options are if you 1. are sero-neg and 2. dont have disability coverage? Is there any help out there if I cant work? I am starting to worry because everytime I have a good few days, I have that many bad ones. I cant afford to keep missing work but I dont know what else I can do. whats sero-neg? not to sound dumb Blood work is negative.

Government disability - SSI.??
If you have a "Rheumatoid Arthritis" diagnosis - regardless of your bloodwork, wouldnt that be enough?

some people have no RA factor, and still have RA.   lots of drs will tell you that.

I worry about this too - as I'm having a hard time working.  RA is classified as debilitating - degenerative disease.  The diagnosis should be enough......RIGHT?   Especially if you've been treated by a doctor for "years" for the same condition.... and you can prove it.

Let me know what you find out..k?

woobie

woobie38842.9805555556yes you can get on ssi with RA . i'm on it now , first you must be unable to work for six months, thats the hard part and you cant have more then 00.00 in the bank not counting car and house .i've done it and it not as hard as you think

how much do you get a month?

does everyone get the same or is it on some scale?

ohhhhhhhh it's so scarey!

woobieIt is  worked out according to any other income but the max benefit for the sick persons disability in Queensland is 0.  per f/n approx.  My hubby is my carer so he gets the same and is allowed to earn 5.00 a week.  I think the benfits are pretty good and you do get used to living on a budget, we were both career people  bringing in ,000 . per year   and now we are under ,000 per year, (proof it can be done).  We had to cash in our super to help pay off the mortgage.  Also  you get concessions on Electricity, car rego, telephone  etc and a pension card which helps with Drs and pharmaceuticals.  We will never be able to cover all the drs bills and operations  and hospital gaps but we  manage fairly well, try  not to worry, I know it is hard but  the positives  help.  I get to spend more time with my kids and so does hubby, although I can't do much with them physically but lets face it, what choice do we have.  This is a bloody painful progressive illness and each day has to be cherished.  Good luck in your disability apps, keep your chins up.  Yours in pain Jane.  Janie - What is per f/n?  Where do you live?  I think it may be harder in the US but I don't want to discourage anyone.  Well, lets see, I have about 100 bucks in the bank. My car isnt in my name but the house is. Could I last for 6 months with out working? No. If I could, I wouldnt be worried about this crap in the first place. I guess the option would be to work doing things that you dont have to report. Like watching kids in your home and other little odd jobs. HHMMMM. I still would have to clear at least 0/week to get by. Life was so much simpler when I was not a career woman...stupid me for wanting it all. Now I've got it,  it's all my kids have ever known and I cant take that away from them.  If only I could win the lottory. Just a million---even a half or a quarter mill would make all of the difference in the world.  Well,  so, wow--6 months huh? And I guess after all of that you still could get turned down to right? How do you know what kind of SS you would be able to get? Some unions have another way to get disability without going the SSI route. With the teacher's union it's call disability retirement. You have to be completely unable to work. The amount you are paid is 50% of total compendation. You do not get to keep health benefits unless you have worked there a long time.  In my school that's 15 years. I f I go on it, I would get to close to ,000. per month, but I would have to independently pay about 9,000. worth of medical benefits in order to not be dropped from coverage.  The problem is both your doctor and the company doctor have to say you are disabled and they don't usually want to do that. Still, It's worth reading with a fine tooth comb any union provisions for retirement. http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/dqualify4.htm

Go to the website and read up on their guidelines.  This should help you if you read through there.

You can also try to talk to an attorney and get a free consultation.  they might be able to give you good legal advice.

I really think you want to be careful before you apply so that you know you have the best chance of it and making sure you don't make a mistake.

I think that often they can decide you are capable of doing modified work or other work, and you are responsible to reduce the liability by looking for other work.  This is how workers' compensation is here.  I don't know about SSI as much.

I wish you were feeling better.

p.s.  The SSI doctors are pretty hardcore from what I understand by the way.
arizonara38843.6729861111WHAT ABOUT SSD INSTEAD OF SSI
Janie - What is per f/n?  Where do you live?  I think it may be harder in the US but I don't want to discourage anyone.
Hi Roxy, per fortnight.  I am sorry if I have upset anyone, I was just trying to help and be positive.  Regards Jane.
Crunchy, good luck with this. Wish I could help you. Maybe we could go in on one of those lottery pools & share the pot if we win. Be a heck of a news story.

Janie,  You didn't upset anyone.  You are only being supportive - Rox

So now - how long is a fort night
Janie,  You didn't upset anyone.  You are only being supportive - Rox

So now - how long is a fort night   Roxy there is ssi and ssdi. ssi goes on money in the bank retirment fund stocks bonds 401k any cars in your many savings account. the other goes on how many points you've earned through working. You should call your local ss office you can do an interview for both right over the phone.

I guess I dont understand alot of what this stuff means. I am not good with all of this kind of stuff. What is SSI and SSD? I know SS is social security, but what about the rest?
