well, I finally decided to work half time next year even though it means reducing my salary by half and moving to a new school to start all over again. At least my health benefits will still be covered and hopefully I won't be so tired in the afternoons that I almost fall asleep at the wheel. I got a call from the secretary of the head of human resources at our school district saying they had approved me for next year. I don't completely trust them as they have been known to change their minds at the last minute, but I am working with the union this time. I'm waiting for the official letter to arrive in the mail. If all goes according to plan, I will work from 9 to 12, or possibly 8 to 11. I feel calmly resolved that I made the right decision. My friends at school can't believe I did it.  They keep saying  just keep teaching full time a few more years, but I just can't take it any more. Now I have to force myself to go home at the appointed hour because this job can go on and on. The work is never done. I have avoided the whole disability issue by doing this and hope it won't be an issue at the next school.Well, I hope it helps you feel better.  I can understand that you were in a tough position.  They left you with difficult options, and I think taking it easy will probably help you really enjoy your last years there.  You may really like a new environment with people that don't have preconceived notions about you.  :)    Lindak, you did what's best for you. As long as you're at peace with your decision it makes no difference what your co-workers think or say. Plus all of that added stress from trying to keep up with full time isn't good for us. You got your health benefits and that's what counts! You will be better at your job and better able to handle the drive home. All that we need to do, sometimes, is just let go a little bit so that we can get a better grip on the rest.
Lindak, take pride in your decision and let your heart be filled with a joyfull noise.

MarisaCongratulations! Your choice makes a lot of sense. Good for you!!!!  This will better for you in the long run.  I know it is disappointing to have to go to part time, but YOUR HEALTH IS TOO IMPORTANT!!!!   Your friends don't realize how hard this has been on you, that it is pushing your health even further down.   Again I say good for you!!! meme
