hey you guys

just a quick question. my arthritis doc wants me to go onto remicade, my crohns doc wants me to go onto humira. they are kinda the same, one is iv'd every 8 wks and one i get every 2 wks from my doc. just wondering if any of you guys are taking this and if its helping you much at all.... would it have any long term affects on me since im only 26?

i wasnt gonna take it cos my two main areas of pain, hip and foot, were operated and fixed and everything else, crohns and arthritis, seemed to be ok so i didnt see a need.. but over the last few weeks my crohns has been killing me, my knees have been swollen and are sore still with some fluid on them (never sore before) and the last couple pf days my eblow has been getting stiff which was never a prob before.

would love to know if anyone out there is taking either of the above meds and what they think of them??? or even from what you guys know, which would you suggest. im just so conflustered

thanks
:)

Sorry to hear you have RA and Crohns.  I am on Humira for RA and it has been great for me taking away almost all of my swelling and about 75% of the pain I used to get.  A friend of mine is on Remicade for Crohns and he has also seen a great improvement.  Perhaps Remicade would be your best option as it is used in the treatment of RA and Crohns.  Humira, I think, is only for RA and not proven for Crohns.  Unfortunately no one knows the long term effects as they are both newish drugs (less than 10 years old).  My friend has been on Remicade for about 6 years now and has had no side effects other than the odd cold.  Let us know what you decide Jane

I have been taking Humira since July 2005. It has made such a difference in both my arthritis and my crohn's. Several years ago I took 2 rounds of Remicade, but had to quit due to an allergic reaction. I noticed a difference with my arthritis within 48 hours (my ankles were once again their normal size) and although it took longer my Crohn's went into remission again in October 2005. Though I am a bit older than you, ok I am 42, I became ill w/ the Crohn's at 29 and the arthritis followed when I am 33. The Humira is the best drug I have taken since it actually helps with both. If you have any other questions please email me at eyarbrough@stefcu.org.

Feel well.
