reduced workload stymied | Arthritis Information

I can't believe what happened. Yesterday I went to the district office to sign a contract saying I would work half time at a middle school in our district. I had worked through union negotiations to set this up, visited the new school and was well received although they said they really had more of a caseload than for a half time position. When I went to sign the contract, I mentioned that the school said they might need a full time person but the HR person said not to worry about it that they determine staffing.  Anyway , today I get a call from my new principal concerned because he got a letter saying I was coming. He asked if I was planning to work half time but carry a full caseload and be willing to be available after school to meet with parents.  I am so frustrated. I just Emailed my lawyer. I may loose the full time job I have now or be forced to work full time next year without accommodations. I am so fed up!I am sorry to hear this.  It sounded as if you had worked out the  perfect situation.I would be frustrated, too, Linda. This happens all too frequently. It seems as though employers go out of their way to NOT accommodate people with RA. I wonder if it's as tough with other diseases? This doesn't sound like misinterpretation - it sounds like fraud. And it sounds as though you need a disability lawyer.

Linda, I'm so sorry to hear this.  Wait to see what the attorney has to say.  I know your frustration.  *hugs* Linda- I sure hate to hear that your deal fell through. Hang in there!

Linda,

That's awful. Hopefully your lawyer can help. I find this is a problem with most jobs and it is why I stay in one I don't particularly like. My boss is understanding about my need to not work so many hours and to go to doctor's appointments.

Maybe this guy feels like he is just having you pushed on him and thinks he can push you into doing what he wants in spite of what he has been told are your limitations. Don't fall for it. Stand firm about your needs.

I am fighting at work to just get my workstation evaluated. All someone has to do is walk over to my machine and check it out. But I'm a contractor and not an employee. So, they are putting in a workman's comp on it and I have to call this person and that one. Uggh!!! This would take five minutes of one person's time. Now, we have four or five people involved. It is purely ridiculous.

Just don't give up and don't give in. You deserve to have what you need.

Linda

I'd be furious too. Work half time and carry a full time case load!! Why would anyone do that let alone someone with RA.

Ugh...so sorry to hear this.  Nice of them to wait until now, after the contract is signed, to tell you they need you to carry a full-time workload.  I hope your lawyer can get things worked out for you.

  (((((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))))))))))))))

I am so sorry to hear what happen!!

On the positive side, we're driving to Hollywood tomorrow to see my son perform. His girl friend owns a dance company and he is a sculptor who designs enormous puppets for the stage ans well as all kinds of props and special effects. He's poor but very happy. I'm going to put all this in abeyance and try to enjoy the weekend. I hate our school district and all the corruption that goes with it.

Linda,

This sounds so incredibly frustrating. Even perfectly healthy, a person would be stressed to be dealing with so much. I don't know why they have to make it so hard on you. It makes you wonder where all the human beings went in the world.

I wish you the best of luck. It sounds like a lot of fun what your son is doing. I hope that is a total blast.

My thoughts are with you. Sometimes you have to fight and sometimes you have to walk away. But only you know which is right. This is your life. Put your energy in what is most important to you. You are already stronger than they are and a much nobler person.
