Humira Questions | Arthritis Information

I have read here that it burns when injected so to let it sit out 30 minutes. I have a question, they said you could inject it into your stomach....is that less painful/burning?

We will start these injections for my husband this weekend so any advice/helpful hints are welcome!

Yes, it burns... and yes in the tummy is better.  I have a lot of fat to inject into in my tummy

I learned from someone on here to ice the area until it's so cold it hurts, then inject it.  It works, and that's what I do now.

And I also learned that I should inject it slowly.  I was sticking it in and injecting it really fast before - to get it over with, but slower is better.... if it starts to sting bad, i just go slower.

I learned that here.........

hope that helps.  Good luck!!

They say the stomach is best....but just the thought of it scares me!!

Good luck!!

It is stings a bit, but it is not too bad. I give the injection to myself, I thought of asking my boyfriend, but I like controlling it.i don't get used to it ( I started two months ago), for me the worst it is not the burning, it is injecting the needle in my flesh, it is really weird. But I think it is worthy.

I am with woobie about doing it slowly, i think it is better, I normally have my boyfriend next to me, just for support telling me it is almost done (we can call it encouragement).

I thik the stings it is because of the liquid getting in the flesh. It happens the same when you are injected with anaesthesia.

Good luck!!!

When I was on Humira I only did the injection on my stomach. I let it sit out first and would apply ice after the injection. The stinging was very little. Best wishes.

you've come to the right place! i learned a lot from this board.

not too long ago i learned from experience, and this board, that injecting in your side abdomen is less painful than your thigh. at least for most people.

and it seems like people have different time frames for leaving the medicine out. i leave it out for 15 or so min's & it's fine.

i also found that the medicine stings going in everytime i inject. it's usually tolerable. focusing on my breathing helps. i take normal, calming breaths & tell myself it'll be ok. i also imagine i'm at the doctor & they're giving me the shot & are very busy & have to just inject it & go.

good luck! keep us informed.
