Hi From Australia | Arthritis Information

Hi my name is Julie and I am from Australia I have just come across this forum, and thought I would pop in and say Hi. I have had RA for the past 2 years, I am great in the Summer months but suffer really bad in the Winter, Its nice to chat to people who are going through the same thing as you, when I tell people I have RA, most people say I have a grandmother or grandfather with arthritis,  alot of people try to tell me what I should be taking

It just gets to me that some people can say gee you looked bad yesterday, but look so good today, its strange how you are only in pain somedays

Glad you said hello.

I am not the most active person on this board but I am around!

I have found that rather than use the word 'arthritis' when responding to people about how I feel, I focus on the word 'Autoimmune' and how it is my whole system that attacks itself for no apparent reason and that is why it comes in waves. The main thing people don't generally seem to know is that this is not 'just arthritis' - it is systemic and that is a difficult concept to get across. I didn't know what it meant until I had RA.

Nice to Meet you Cynthia,

I know so much about it now, and its true when I had no idea what it was, I had no concept of RA. I just think it will be wonderful to discuss things with other people going through the same thing.

Thanks for you Reply

I live in Queensland, the sunshine state as they call it. I am still yet to visit Victoria maybe one day. Love to get to New Zealand and the States one day also.

Hi Julie...welcome!G'day Julie and welcome. I hear Austraila is a great place to live. I know the people are great and I like the culture too.

Have a great day!

Welcome Jules.  Being rather new to RA myself, I am experiencing what you are talking about now...everyone telling me what I should be doing for my "arthritis".

It's good to hear you are still active and can play those sports...I can't wait to get back to working out!!

Look forward to chatting with ya.

Welcome to the boad Julie! The people here are really helpful and fun. It is great to have you here.

I am finding the summer to have relieved my ra also.

Welcome Jules I have cousins in Sydney. What a beautiful place Oz is (we went to the Royal Easter Show when we were there, and my God, your macadamia nuts are cheap! and delicious!! Hi There Julie -  I'm new to the forum myself and have received a lot of information and support.  Don't hesitate to ask any  question and to vent if you have to.  Sometimes we don't have anyone to ask or vent to except each other.  Welcome.Hi Jules,

I live in the Sunshine State too. I actually live on the Sunshine Coast, but it
seems to me that's just a cruel name used to lure tourists I'm the
same with the winters, in QLD it seems that when it's cold, it's bitterly cold.
Last couple of nights I've been sleeping with a heat pack.

Nice to meet another Aussie

I'm  on the Darling Downs so it gets a bit nippy here at night, I've had the heat packs too, gee winter has only started and I'm already looking for summer.

Great to meet another Aussie too
