Hi all:
I was crying last night because it hurt so much I mean my joints
and whole body hurts. They are checking me for lyme disease and
rheumatiod arthritis. If I got this what do they do for it? Does it
sound like I have RA? It started on tuesday night with my neck hurting then the next morning I hurt all over.
Take Care all.

I am so sorry to here about your pain. Try to relax until you know for sure. There are many good medicines to treat RA if this is what you have. MAKE SURE YOU ARE SEEING A RHEUMATOLOGIST! if you think you might have RA. God bless you and let us know what you find out.

Do you have any swelling?  Is your pain on both sides of your body.  Where is the pain more apparent; i.e., feet or hands,  or is it in all your joints and muscles?  Could be RA.  But like hutch said, there's a lot of good meds out there.  But you must see a rheumatologist for sure.  Good luck and let us know what the dx is.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll have some definite answers soon.  Ditto to what everyone ahead of me said.  The most important relationship in your life will be with your rheumatologist if you have RA.  Don't ever hesitate to ask questions and even vent if you have to, that's what the forums for.

Leah, welcome to the boards. We have a few members here who were initially tested for lyme ds. when being dxd. with RA. Are you having any other symptoms besides the pain? Are you tired? have stifness in the morning? have red joint or rash? Some of the symptoms are the same or similar, but with Lyme disease,  you absolutly can not take meds like Prednisone or any thing that is immunosupressive. It is good that your doctor is testing for it, if only at least to rule it out. Have you had headaches or swollen glands?I'm sorry to hear your feeling so bad. I'm sure there are several things it could be. My RA started with a painful elbow and within the week my entire body hurt and I could barely move. Waiting for an answer is tough.Dbmy-I think that is one of the most difficult things that we all have to deal with. Waiting. The waiting game is such a big part of RA. Waiting for a diagnoses, waiting for meds to work, waiting for approval to get new meds when the olds ones dont work, waiting for employers, doctors, families to finally 'get it'. It gets frustrating and there isnt much that we can do...except wait.

I got my blood work results back. The doctor said everything came back normal but I go back tomorrow to see another doctor the doctor that I saw on thursday. What other tests are out there for RA?

It's important to know that your tests can be normal, but you can still have RA. Not every doctor seems to know that - but YOU need to know it. Look up sero-negative RA, print out info & take it with you.

If you HAVE RA, you MUST start treatment, and the sooner, the better. Even if you have sero-negative RA, and nothing shows up in bloodwork, if you aren't on medicine to protect your joints, you will have erosion & permanent damage.

I hope you get it all figured out. Also, be careful with lyme. My cousin tested normal for 2 years, but he felt awful. He kept going further & further downhill - they finally did a different test on him & found he has lyme - but permanent neurologic damage had been done.

So the point is - don't rest until you have a diagnosis. You know what's wrong isn't normal. Make your doctors figure it out.
Fifi gives good advice about the printing out of sero neg RA info. The more informed you are the better your chances are that you will get a diagnoses or at least the doctors will agressivly pursue a diagnoses. Unfortunatly, some doctors just really drag their feet on things like this if they thing that they can get away with it. good luck girl!
