Research on RA | Arthritis Information

You know, I hear so much being done for so many chronic diseases, but I never hear anything about anything being done for RA.  I check the Arthritis Foundation board every now and then.  All I see are new drugs to help control it like biologics, etc. but never anything to prevent the disease.  Can any of you give me some insight on this?  Do you think it will EVER be cured or prevented?

Susan

I am sure it will be one day, maybe not in my lifetime. They still dont know what exactly causes it at this point.  Maybe one day they will get it all figured out. I guess the bright side is that 50 years ago, the prognosis for RA sufferers was much worse.

There is research being done out there. My doc is involved in studies all the time.

The National Institute of Health has a lot of good information on RA. This link summarizes some of the current research efforts. But I do come across other sites from time to time that discuss it. But this will give you a start.

Hi Guys

Haven't posted for a while, but still pop in from time to time, just to let you know that there are studies being done here too in the Uk, when I was first dx'ed (Feb) my RM asked if I would like to assist in the "British Society for Rheumatology study of long-term outcome of rheumatoid arthritis.  I readily agreed, at the end of the day even if they don't find a cure in my lifetime, they might in my daughters Caz, that is one of the things I am starting to learn too...that it is unpredictable. That makes it so much more frustrating and I think that is why so many people have a hard time understanding about RA and what we have to deal with.
