Because of my osteopenia I have been taking Actonel. I started out with Fosamax but was getting indigestion from it. Anyways, I have not been very good about taking my Viactive. I just dont like the way they taste and I dont like calcium pills either. I have been including dairy in my diet-I love milk and cheese anyways-but have had this nagging voice telling me to do a little research and make sure I am getting adequate ammt.s of calcium. I found this webpage and thought it was very interesting and easy to read. Thought I would share it with yall.

Excellent and useful site.

It really is. Thanks, Crunchy. 1500 mg. is a LOT of calcium. I love dairy, but I love coffee & tea, too. I can't give up everything. I don't like those chews either, Crunchy, and I don't like the pills. It means I don't take them even when I know I should.

I was dx'ed with osteopenia a few years ago when they figured out I was in early menopause. At the time they told me to take calcium but like you guys I hate those chews....and the pills are HUGE!!

This last time I was at the RD my doctor sent me a note after my blood work and told me to add a calcium supplement right away. K~That's been two weeks now!! I need to go to the drug store this afternoon and be serious about it this.

Any advise about what I should buy?

I honostly havent found anything that I like. I have bought TUMS, Viactive and the pills and I dont like any of them. That is why I am trying to get in into my diet. I would like to know if anyone has found a tiny pill that doesnt "burp" back up for hours.

I just bought some calcium yesterday. I like the chews but they have too many other ingredients in them. I can't swallow those BIG tabs so I went to our health food store and bought Calcium citrate. It's a vegetarian formula. They are capsules and not hard to swallow at all. Like most cal you have to take 4 per day to get 1000mg. It also has vit D which helps the absorption. Your body can only absorb 500mg at a time so you have to spread it out. The name is CALCIUM CITRATE PLUS VIT D BY SOLARAY. There web site is www.nutraceutical.com. Hope this helps some of you. Pat PS cal citrate doesn't upset your stomach as much, for me not at all.

Thanks for the tip pat!

Thanks for the info on the site. It is very informative.
And Pat, thanks for the heads up on the calcium
absorption and the type you use. I think I will give
that a try. I'm REALLY bad and taking any
suppliments, but I do drink tons of milk (too much).
My rd gave me actonel several months ago when I
broke my toe (which is still broken) but I never took it.
