I am so proud of myself | Arthritis Information

Right now I am hurting like hell but I finally did it - I went to senior aquatic aerobics today.  It felt so good to be in the water.  At the end, I didn't think I could stand up after I got out of the pool but I did and limped away.  I am going to try to go every day.  I am so proud of myself.  I have been wanting to do this for about a year but between the weight I gained from pred. (I was probably one of the skinniest "seniors"

RAH RAH RAH Roxy:

Trisha

Good for you Roxy, I've been going for 8 years now. When I started out I couldn't handle everyday. I had to work up to it and I couldn't do what the 70 and 80 year olds could do. You need to take it slowly at first and give yourself a day to recover between sessions. If you take it slowly, your tolerance builds.  If you have a flare day, just take it easy that day in the water and hang from a noodle. In the long run, it helps so much. I go 3 to 4 times a week after teaching.
Yay Roxy!!

I LOVE the water and also really love the smell of a
pool (strange, I know) It is so relaxing and
refreshing and I always slept so good after being in
the water. When in vegas, I was in/at the pool a lot,
but since I have been in san francisco (4 1/2 yrs), I
haven't been once. I am SO heavy now I would have
to wear a giant t-shirt over my suit. I'll have to see if
there is anywhere in the city that I could go to a class
(that would not be scary and where I would feel
comfortable)

Tara/Trisha, the t-shirt thing works.  I saw lots of t-shirts over suits.  I wore one of those swimsuits like shorts and jumped in real quick so noone could see me

The only thing that sucked for me is a bunch of the seniors recognized me as the ranger and they wanted to yap.  I wanted to follow the instructor so I will be glad when the ranger thing wears off.

See you guys after water aerobics today.  I am so excited

You're awesome. Keep it going. Sometimes you have to rest a day in between so your muscles can heal. Essentially, the physical therapist told me you are breaking down the muscles and rebuilding them. That's a bit harder for us. So every other day or a different set of muscles worked might make it happen.

I need to do this myself. My shoulder PT is keeping busy right now. I swear if we exercised every ROM part that we needed, at the pace we have to do it now, it would be a full time job. So frustrating when you work and are trapped in a seat all day.

Do you think God invented chairs?

Okay Rox- you have inspired me...I am going in search of a water aerobics class...are yours at an indoor or outdoor pool?

Outdoor.  It was wonderful today.  It is every other day, one day water walking (easier) the next day water aerobics.

I am not kidding you guys.  I have been in so much pain from RA.  I also have suspected I have fibro for a long time as I have so much muscle pain.  Here is the amazing part.  Since I have been going - I have improved 100%.  I am tired, but good tired.  My body feels like it can move so much better.  I think hydro therapy should be a requirement for all of us.  What a difference.  Every other exercise hurt me.  Crunchy DO IT DO IT DO IT.  It is great.  I know it has to be hard when you are working but if you can - DO IT.  I am already trying to figure out how I am going to do it if I have to go back to my ranger job

Seriously, I almost didn't go today as it was sprinkling this morning.  My gf that is staying with me pushed me out the door.  I am so glad she did.  I am tired but it is a good tired.  I would rate my water exercise right up there with the biologics.  Anyone convinced to give it a try???????????

I don't think I could ever put a bathing suit on in front of ppl I don't know.  My legs are just too ugly.

We just put a pool in last year, so this will be the first full summer with the pool, so I'm looking forward to that.

Kelly,  That is so cool that you have your own pool.  Get in their and do jumping jacks

You may convince me to give it a try.

I SOOOO want to go.  I looked up YMCA's in the city, but actually none of them look too inviting or in good places.  One more reason to get out of dodge and go back to vegas to my beloved athletic club with the awesome pools!!!!  But how to get out??

Anyway-good for you Roxy!!  You have definately inspired me and I might even re-join a cool club ($$) here in the city that has a great pool...but in the financial district with all the 'beautiful' people.  Not giving up looking though.
