I have always been able to swallow pills with out any trouble. Now no matter how much I drink afterwards,  it  always takes about 2 hours to get rid of the feeling that my pills are sitting in my throat. Anyone else have this problem?Do you have Sjogren's (sp.?) ?  I know that is a symptom of Sjogren's.  My friend has it and she often gets food stuck in her throat.  Try swallowing them with applesauce or pudding followed by a glass of water.

Crunchy,

I can relate to what you are saying.  Every pill I take, no matter the size, it seems to get stuck.  I take12 pills a day and it takes forever tot ake them, even taking one at atime they still "'stick".

Tried the applesauce/pudding but didn't work for me.

If you find anything else taht may work pass it along.

Butter. When I can't get pills to go down - I put a dab of butter on them. Really does seem to work. I learned that from the vet. Can they be crushed?  If so, mix them in with ice cream or something soft and smooth.

I have a lot of issues with swallowing.  We had great seats for a Beach Boys concert last year and I missed most of it because I was in the bathroom still trying to get my throat to open up from dinner.  My doctor says oh, you just have a motility problem, take smaller bites and eat slowly.  Well, if I'm out to dinner and talking and eating at the same time, I am sooo nervous because sometimes it's like my esophogus slams shut and won't let even saliva go down.  And the more you panic, the worse it gets.

Now with all that trouble with swallowing, I hardly ever have trouble taking pills, if you can believe it!  And some of the pills I take are like horse pills.  Here's what I do - I put my head all the way back, pour a big gulp of my beloved Diet Coke and hold it at the back of my throat with my head back.  Then I drop my pills into the puddle in my mouth and swallow with my head still back.  Works almost every time!

I havent been dxd with sjorgens, I dont think I have other symptoms. I have been having more problems with reflux, indigestion, gassyness, and heartburn. It has been going on for about 6weeks. The reflux and indigestion have improved some since I switched from Fosamax to Actonel. I was having trouble sometimes swallowing my food, or rather I could swallow it but it felt like it was sitting in my chest afterwards. That seems to be better since to switch to actonel, but the pills still hang around. The thing is, that my bc pill and allergy pill are both tiny, and I started taking the RX folic acid so that I only have to take one instead of 4 of the OTC pills. Plus the RX folic acid is coated. Those are essentially the only pills I take unless I am taking pain pills too which isnt very often since they dont work anyways. I will try putting them in something thicker. Milk helps a little bit sometimes, but then there was the other night when I took the pills with milk and then burped medicine flavored milk bubbles for an hour--

sounds like more of a digestive, or similar, problem. maybe drink more water & change your diet a little. yoga helps, too. www.yogajournal.com has a lot of helpful poses for these types of symptoms.

good luck! keep us updated.
