I live in the northeast where its been raining for about 2 weeks now. My joints have been so sore and I've been so tired. Does this happen to anyone else? I've heard conflicting stories about weather and RA. I live in a resort town in the Adirondacks and we're about to start our busiest season next weekend, and I just want to feel better because I know how busy work is going to be until Columbus Day. My RD said maybe I should find another job-yeah right. I work in a hardware/gift store and luckily I am full time year round with benefits and these jobs are so hard to find up here. I used to manage a restaurant kitchen which was just murder. I could never go back to that or waiting tables. Finding a desk job up here is next to impossible. Plus, if I can't work, then I have no insurance. What a vicious cycle!
They say that there is no scientific data that the weather affects arthritis but I am here to tell them, whoever they are, that it does affect us and we are living proof it does. Usually the day before it rains or storms I will hurt and be stiff, more than normal. Then the day of the storm it eases up some. When it is rainy for days and days, I feel yukky. But when the sun finally comes out I feel soooo much better.
You are not alone..............
I live in NW PA near lake Erie. I know what you mean about rain and cloudy days. Not only do I feel terrible from achiness but the gloom gets to you. We have thought about moving but that is easier said than done for me. So we will probably stay here for ever.
My RA office tells me that they always get more patients when the weather changes. I live in the desert and it is the dramatic shifts in pressure that really do me in. Everything swells and the pain is horrid. It rains and then the pressure magically lifts. If the pressure builds over several days, then I can't tell much of anything.
I have no idea what two weeks of rain would be doing. Is it one front rolling in after another or just an endless downpour?
I know it makes me feel like my whole body is in a terrible vise.
The work problem seems to be very common. Try your best not to overdo no matter what the demand is. The consequences could cost you greatly in your physical well-being. That said, I know you will do what you have to survive. But sometimes, with this disease, stopping is the remedy. Pushing can get you in worse condition fast.
I hope the rain and the pain clears.
I don't find any connection to my RA and the weather. BUT...I still wish this rainy weather would go away...we need some warm weather.
Hope you're feeling better soon
Hi Donna-rae,
