Has anyone else felt that their MTX has brought on early menopause?

I find it a huge coincidence that I went on MTX in October and that is when my periods became irregular. I am now experiencing the lovely hot flashes. I wish I could go off this junk and just stay on Enbril.

Before I went on mtx, I was in the early stages of menopause. My hot flashes were so light that by the time I realize that I was having one, it was over. Since I've starting down this mtx road, my hot flashes have gotten worse. I can feel them coming on and I get that burning up feeling starting from inside my body and working it's way to the out side. Plus they last longer.
The only good thing is that I don't get them too often but when I do, I turn red and it's time to turn on the fan or throw some ice water on me. I hate hot flashes!!!!

I'm 35 and I'm in menopause. That's been about 2 years ago now. I now have to take a HRT.

I was on MTX for about two years before all of this started happening. My doctors won't confirm or deny that MTX caused it but there's no doubt about it; I'm in menopause. My hormone levels leave no question about it. My OB & My RD said it could just be the RA itself; or it could have been caused by the MTX.

I haven't considered it a huge problem. No period? Suit me. I did have to go on HRT due to early bone loss, hot flashes, mood swings....all the Menopause symptoms. It has been good for me. Really no complaints.

I always caution younger ladies who still have hopes of having children though. If I still wanted children I'd steer clear of MTX although it's been wonderful for my RA.

I've had the same problem...irregular periods...hot flashes....spotting between periods...heavy periods...light periods..etc  I asked my doctor a few weeks ago about it and she says yes, most definately mtx can cause problems with your periods.  I did have some tests though to rule out any other problems and so far I haven't heard anything so I'm assuming that it's either mtx...my age (44) or combination of both.

Glad to know I am not the only one. My RD says it happens all the time with MTX. My ob talked me into a D and C.....and now she want to do an abblasion. I have to talk to my RD and/or find a new ob who isn't so surgury happy.

How old are you Gena? If you don't mind saying

I am 45 years old. I didn't have any menopause or peri-menopausal symptoms. I went on MTX in October and hemorhagged that month. My period disappeared. I went off MTX in late January...till my liver numbers got betterr. Went back on MTX in Feb and hemorhagged again. I still have no period and now the lovely hot flashes.

My age makes it dicey. I know it's the drug.

You could get a 2nd gyn opinion.  Was there any pathology (findings) at the time of the D&C?  Usually abblations are done for a variety of reasons.   Did the gyn say why they wanted to do the abblation?  It's always wise to get a 2nd opinion.yeah, I'm in the same age range...so I'm not sure.  sounds like in your case though, that the mtx is responsible.Hi, I had the ablation done about 3 months ago. I also was having problems with my periods. Do the ablation, it has helped like you can not even believe. I feel so much better and the best part is my periods are GONE! I balked at first about having it done. But like I said, I feel so much better and very little recovery time from the ablation. I do think the MTX is part to blame, that is when I started to have problems. Good luck to you, GenaRogers.
