Tingling/Numbness in hands and feet | Arthritis Information

Yesterday I had some tingling/numbness in my right foot.  I figured it had to do with the fact that this foot is rather deformed.  My big toe goes over top of the one it's beside.  Plus I have some metatarsal issues that have caused my foot to become wider. I also have hammer toe issues.  Anyway, today the foot tingling/numbness has gone away, but now I have it in my hands.

I looked this problem up online and found out that some of the meds we take can actually cause this tingling/numbness.

Here is a list of drugs that may cause this:

  • Drugs
  • Of those listed, I take 2 of them (mtx and plaquenil)

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  I think we had a post here a while back about this?, Can't really remember.

Hey Kelly,  I haven't had those symptoms but the ra monster has a myriad of ways to bug us - doesn't he ?  Don't get worried about it.  I have all kinds of new "sensations" since ra.  Sorta, trying - learning to accept them.  Love - Rox

Yeah, I'm not going to get too worked up about this yet, but if it continues, I'll talk to my doctor about it.

    Thanks Roxy

I go through spells of tingling & numbness in my feet. My Dr. seems to think it is from the inflamation in my knee pressing on a nerve. It stops when the flare has eased up. Same pretty much with hands, that was how my Carpel Tunnel Syndrome started. Hopefully yours will ease up and be a one time thing.

Hi dbmy3. I was wondering why I have been having tingling in my left foot.  I bet it is the same thing that causes yours. The swollen & inflamed knee.

    Hope you are feeling well

The tingling/numbness in my right hand has lessened, but now my hand seems very sore when trying to make a fist...all through my hand and around my wrist.  I actually prefer that to the tingling...I guess because I'm so used to that feeling.

Oh yea, for sure.  Tingling and numbness in my feet and arms and hands.  Had carpel tunnel for awhile.  And numbness in the night that hurt so bad I cried.  It's just an RA thing.  This disease is for crap and takes such an emotional toll.

I too have tingling and numbness in my hand and all the way up my arm to my shoulder.  It comes and goes.  I thought it was carpal tunnel but my Neurologist said it is not in the right place to be carpal tunnel.  She took xrays to make sure it was not from a nerve in my neck but they came out normal.   I also had a really bad flare in the same hand more than once and it has left me with a tremor that comes and goes too.  I am still at the diagnostic stage as far as the numbness but wouldn't be surprised (after reading all the others who have the same problem) that it is from my RA too.  Susan Lee

    Thanks guys

I'm sitting here reading this and all of the numbness/tingling that your having, I've had for the past year. Mine is from carpal tunnel and a torn apart thumb joint. Had to sleep with braces on both hands and finally just one. I was so bad that I had to have surgery on my hand.
Kelly, if it keeps up, PLEASE, get it checked out. If I had my looked at sooner, I wouldn't had all the damage that I had.
I do get the numbness/ tingling in my feet but it's when my knees are very swollen. Take my meds and swelling goes down and the feet stop tingling/numbness.
    Take care,
    Marisa

I had severe tingling in my wrists and hands, it was so painful that it would wake me up at night. I went through alot of testing and found out it was because of a bulging disk in my neck. The disk itself however was not encroaching on a nerve, but it was causing the muscles in my shoulders to tighten and that was putting pressure on the nerves. I get swelling around the sciatic nerves and that causes painful tingling in my legs and especially my feet. It is all about the swelling and the pressure to the nerves that are entertwined with the musculature.

There are other causes for tingling, but the most likely answer if you have it in all extremities and an inflammatory disorder is the pressure from swelling. Ice paks to the neck, lower back, or knees can help.
