My doctor has just increased my sulfasalazine.  I was taking 2 500mg pills a day.  Now I'm taking 4 500mg pills a day.

I've been having headaches pretty much every day for the last week.  The headaches started shortly after I increased the sulfasalazine.  Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, it happened to me when my rheumy increased my sulfa dosage up to 6 500mg tablets a day (max dose). It normally takes a few weeks for the body to get used to it. I hope your doc told you to drink plenty of water, Sulfasalazine can dehydrate you very easily sometimes (which can cause headaches i guess ). Make sure you get your bloods done on a regular basis aswell, sulfa drugs can mess with the liver a little.

I'm sure it'll pass once your system gets used to it.

hi-I currently take 3000mg total a day of sulfasalazine.i do not have headaches-but -had to split the dosage to 2 pills 3x a day, because it upset my stomach.I would certainly tell the doctor of the headaches.sherry

I do not have much to say on this because I found out thru Sulfasalazine that, I am allergic to Sulfa. Yes, I took my first dose before I went to bed that night and woke up with hives, and having trouble breathing. Had to go get a shot, yet another needle, and I was screaming & crying because they were coming at me with this long needle and planned on stabbing it into my butt!!!! Hubby had to hold me still..lol. Or I would have walked and if I could have RAN out of the ER. That was back in 2000.
