Hello, my name is Melinda Morgan. I am a Psychology Master’s student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am doing an online study of how individuals with RA adjust and cope with their condition for my Master’s degree research. Below you will find details about the study and how you can participate!

Thanks,

Melinda Morgan

Do you have Rheumatoid Arthritis and are aged 18 and over? If so, we would like to invite you to participate in an online study looking at how people with RA adjust to their illness and what life changes have occurred since experiencing RA. This study has been reviewed by the Carleton University Ethics Committee for Psychological Research. In this study you will be asked to fill out an online questionnaire about how you cope with your RA, the severity of your RA and any changes that have occurred in your life as a result of your RA. The questionnaire will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. To participate please visit the following website:   http://www.surveyconsole.com/console/TakeSurvey?id=216681

Should you have any questions about this study you can contact the following people:

Principal Investigator: Melinda Morgan (mmorgan3@connect.carleton.ca), MA Candidate, Department of Psychology, Carleton University.

Research Supervisor: Dr. Mary Gick (mary_gick@carleton.ca or 613-520-2600 x2648), Chair of Department of Psychology, Carleton University

I filled out the questionaire, it's a great idea and i hope it will be used to publish a book for those with RA.

If you fill it out, there is a place at the end for your thoughts to give to others with RA, this is a great spot to give information on how to make life easier with your intimacy, family, gadgets around the home etc.

Thanks Shanbr for filling out the survey! And thanks for the encouragement! I will definitely be submitting my study for publication and will be sure to post the results on this forum for all to see.

All the best,

Melinda:)

Melinda

Just took your survey and can't wait til all the results are in.  I think a big thing for all of us RA people is EDUCATING everyone else of what the disease really is and what it does.

I can't tell you how many people say"You look good, how can you say you feel so bad?"

Thanks for the survey and DO THE BOOK!!

Hi Deena, thanks so much for filling out the survey and for your encouragement!! I will definitely be posting the results on this forum for people to see.

All the best!

Melinda:)

I filled it out too. I'd love to see the results.

Thanks so much for filling it out dbmy3!

Take care,

Melinda:)

I did it too...good luck with your project!

Thanks so much crunchy!!

Take care,

Melinda

Just refreshing this post so that people can see itI have to say that medication and treatment has a large impact on my answers.  I think that the results cannot be accurate without taking into account what treatment plan a person is on.  I can answer those questions entirely different depending on how my medication is going.

Those answers can also change week to week with RA.

Hi arizonara, that's a really good point! Thanks for doing the survey.

Melinda:)

Good luck with your paper I filled the survey out also.

Thanks so much Nichole!

Melinda:)

Melinda, I want to thank you for doing this survey.  I know we would all be very interested in the final results.  I hope very much that this will have a positive affect on new people who are diagnosed with this disease.  It can be very hard to be positive and not look at life from the sidelines when you are just trying to figure out what the next step is.  It is so hard when it comes to day to day life if there isn't a support structure to lean on.  Hopefully it will be put to good use.

Thanks again and good luck with your Masters!!!

Hi Poopedpuppy, Thank you so much for taking the time to fill out the survey. Thankyou also for your encouragement. I definitley plan on publishing these results and will provide this forum with a summary report once data collection and analysis are complete. My goal is to increase awareness of the unique challenges that people with this condition face and at the very least provide information for those suffering with RA as to what ways of coping seem to help people adjust. I wish you all the best and again, thank you!

Melinda:)

Just refreshing itHey Melinda-I hope that as more and more people become aware of RA and how it effects people, there will be more support and more holistic approches to our care. I am glad that your questions addressed the real emotional issues that we deal with.  So many people get RA confused with OA and they just dont have any idea the emotional hold it takes on our lives. Good luck on your project, I hope you will be able to open some eyes with your results. Thanks for posting this ,enjoyed doing it and hope we all help u out.

All the best,

Melinda:)
