Enbrel on its way... | Arthritis Information

It has been a week and a half since my doc ordered my enbrel. I called the pharmacy to find out when it was going to come, I have been waiting for it every day. They said, "we have been trying to call you since the 17th to set up delivery" they had my home # and not my cell. UUGGHHH! I could have already started on it! Anyways, it comes tomorrow and I have to work tomorrow night so I guess I will start it Friday morning. I wonder if I start it early Friday morning can I pick up the next dose on Wed night next week? I want to take it on wednesdays, but I dont want to wait to get started either.

Not sure about having your doses that close.  I would suggest calling the doc or a pharmacist on that one.

Good luck Crunchy...I hope this works for you!Good News!Crunchy, I've been on enbrel about a year. The delivery is a pain because you have to be available for hours. I had them deliver it to  work. I took a cooler with frozen ice blocks, some bubble wrap to put around the prescriptions s they wouldn't freeze. Worked like a charm.  Also, you could have it delivered to your  local pharmacy if you know someone there who will look out for you. I vary when I take enbrel but I always take it on the same day.

Summers in Phoenix delivery is a big problem, especially when I lived in an apartment. Mine comes packed in ice from CuraScripts. They send me a 3 months supply. It is pretty cheap that way and a lot more convenient. Might see if your insurance will do something like that for you.

My doctor's office was kind enough to take the delivery for me.

Oh, if that pharmacy can't get the job done, will Costco take your insurance? I've heard they are one of the most inexpensive pharmacies.Actually they asked if they could leave it at the door if no one was home and I said yes...It came while I was home though. In a little ice chest and packed with Ice packs. They also sent me a sharps box too. I am a little nervous about taking it now...but I guess I just need to go ahead and do it.

Don't be nervous...just be proud that you're able to inject yourself.  I have my Enbrel delivered all over the U.S. when we're traveling and I've never had a problem.  To make sure I'm still taking the med. the lab requests that I call them to ship the next weeks supply.  They don't want to ship if I'm off the med due to expense.  The only time I can't receive it is when we're in Mex. After I grovel, beg, and write in blood my ins. co. will authorize a 6 mon. supply for me to take along to Mex.

Everyone thinks that meds are cheaper in Mex....Enbrel is 4 times more expensive per inj. than in the states. If we decide to stay longer Stan will fly  and pick up my inj. at our son's house in Las Vegas and then fly back to Mex. It costs ,000 USD for a months supply in Mex. vs. ,4000 USD in the states!!!!!!  Stan can fly round trip for less than 0 and our ins. pays for the meds.  Where there is a will there's a way.

I'm starting Remicade this month and I'll have to drive back to the states (3 days drive) for my infusions.  We'll see how that works out.  If it doesn't then we find a place in Mex. closer to the U.S. to live for 6 months and cut the driving time.

Oh, Crunchy, how can you be nervous about this? You  are a nurse.

It's a cinch, really. I never had given myself an injection before. And, they already have puts so many different meds in my body. So, just grin and bear it.

Be the guinea pig! You are the experiment.

Actually, it is so much easier than going into the office for the Remicade infusions. The one thing I really like about it.

Just do it!

Congratulations Crunchy.  Have you done it yet????? My first injectiion was bliss - no kidding.
