Do you have this too? | Arthritis Information

Well, I spent a couple of hours in the sun watching my son march in a couple of Memorial Day parades and now I'm miserable!  I have Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE) and this year it has come on strong.  I've had it since I was a young child, but it seems to be getting worse and worse.

My ANA test was negative, so I don't have to worry about lupus, but I hate this.  I'm swollen, itchy have teeny tiny little blisters and rash everywhere that was exposed to the sun.  I couldn't sleep well last night because of the itching.

My question is:  Do any of you have this also, and could it be another common symptom for auto-immune illnesses?

No- I'm not sure what this is.  Good luck and hang in there!  Check with your doctor, sometimes there are special things to put in bathwater to relieve your skin of itching!I was in the sun yesterday for a little while and I got burnt pretty good. Nothing too serious....but I do burn. Not like you though. Feel better!!

Thanks guys.  Trish, PLE is a sensitivity to the sun, which results in a really ugly, itchy rash anywhere the sun "kissed", LOL.  You don't have to be in the sun long enough to get a burn, it's more like an allergic reaction.  Even my scalp itches, so I look like I've got lice, or something!

This too shall pass.  I go through it every year, but I just got to wondering if it could be related.

Oh Hillhoney,  That is horrible.  If I could not be out in the sun I would be miserable.  Feel better and I am so sorry you have to put up with this too.  Does sunblock help? Maybe you need a little parasol or something.

Sunblock doesn't help, and most of the time this weekend I was sitting in the shade, but that's the way it goes.  It improves after a few weeks and by the end of summer I don't have a problem, although if I sit in the direct sun for more than a few minutes I get lightheaded, but maybe that's caused by the tropical drink!

Thanks ladies!
