I have had problems with hives for 4 years now. As long as I take my allergy pill every night I am fine and once in a while I forget and I am still okay or I only get a mild little rash. I took my pill last night around 6.  I have been breaking out all night and it is worse than it has been in years.

Has anyone experienced an increase in sensitivity to allergens or had an increase in skin rashes after starting Enbrel? I took my first shot on Thursday night so I would think that a reaction to the drug itself would have occured then. I wonder if this my latex sensitivity going crazy. Tonight was my first night back to work since starting Enbrel.

It started out tonight on my butt cheek---Sorry your so itchy! I've had them and never want them back. I had them after Humaria and Remicade and had to come off them. Better get that refill asap. The last time my Dr. had to put me on Prend. to clear it up, still took over a month. Hope you feel better soon!Hives are not something to mess around with. The next step could by anaphylaxis. Let your doctor know about it, Crunchy. I agree with Fiona. Doctor time.

I am still breaking out! Any one else have this? I know Enbrel can lower you ability to fight infections, if you have allergies, can it lower your resistance to fight them too?

Did you call the doctor? Huh? I'm bugging you. Did you?I was on Enbrel and had to stop it because of skin rashes. Mine started after I had been on the med for about 5 months. My dermatologist diagnosed mine as bacterial and fungal skin rashes.  This after having a skin biopsy and many appts.  I would contact your rheumy to make sure it is not an allergic reaction especially since it happened so soon after starting the med.See, see, see! Call your doctor. We don't want a Crunchy with itchies.Okay, I guess I will call. That is the only bad thing about working nights, no one is up when I am. But I will call. I promise. When I get up....okay, when I get home in the morning. Okay?[QUOTE=crunchy]

yes it can , you need to see you doc right away . dont wait do it now

Well, Crunchy, did you call the doc?

Can't help it. I worry. Besides, I think we can all agree I'm a PIB.

When I saw this thread pop up to the top of the list and your name behind I thought "Uh-oh"

I am a really bad patient. Good nurse yes. Good patient no.

I forgot??? The hives are not as bad today. I mean they are still lingering and I am medicating for them.... but...

I took my 2nd Enbrel injection about 6 hours ago.  My hand broke out a little while ago but I am still alive, no anaphalaxis yet.

I guess it is worth mentioning the hives to the doc. right? I just dont want to be taken off of the Enbrel. I have been waiting for something to work, I NEED someting to work.

You are the worst patient ever! I swear you know better. It might just be adding something that reduces the hives and not take you off Enbrel. You said you had hives before that you treat with medicine.

You die on me and I will be mad.

Call the doctor. It's just a call. But you know you shouldn't ignore it.

Aaah!!! Woman, you drive me crazy!

I promise, I am not going anywhere anytime soon....I owe too much in taxes....they wont let me!

Besides I did a really neat trick tonight. Since I do my MTX shots in my belly, I decided to do the enbrel in my arms. That was a good idea for the first shot. Then I realized....how was I going to inject into my right arm if I am right handed? The answer is Veerrrry  Caaarrreeefullly!  I did it though. I gave myself a shot with my left hand. Whew! It had some burn to it!

Pretty neat trick huh?

Your talent is amazing! Can you dial your Dr. with your left hand too! Fiona38870.1550810185

And then she won't be able to scratch either. It's a sad, sad tale.

Pretty neat trick though.

And the current status is? You had to know I would be looking. Well?

You guys are aweful! My arm is not going to fall off!

And you know...I shouldnt have waited until Friday to call in.  I guess I will have to wait until Monday to hear from the doctor. I wish I could just talk to him directly instead of going throught the nurse. She gets the job done, but I dont like her much. She could improve on her social skills a bit.

Crunchy,

I'm sorry. But you seem so hesitant to care for yourself while at the same time you are being a nurse to everyone else on this forum. It is such a contrast. And, all teasing aside, we are worried about you.

If the nurse is that way, just tell her that you really need to talk to the doctor personally. It's really important. And, I think right now it is more than just the Enbrel working or not. You need to feel like your doctor has a handle on this and you are going to see some improvement. So see if you can push for that or go in again and meet with the doctor and express all this. That is so critical at this point. Sometimes when I go in, and I am having a real hard time with everything, I end up crying eve. I hate it, but my body is just so worn down. You sound a bit like that right now. Because it can be like that. You can take 10 different pills, injections, and do all the things right and still feel lousy.

Please do whatever it takes to make you feel better physically and more assured about the treatment you are getting. I just want you to feel better. The thought of you swollen and in hives on top of everything is awful.

At least I can report that I feel a little bit better today than yesterday.  Only a little bit stiff and sore, headache is finally gone, I am just sooooo tired. But everyone is fussing so I made myself get up and at least pick up a little around the house. So I will still call back on Monday morning....but I forgot all about that Enbrel line...I will get the number off of  the website. I know what they will say though.  If the hives get out of control, swelling to face or mouth, shortness of breath---go to the ER: otherwise call my doctor. I think I am just complaining too much about side effects. Tell me to shut up!

You're not complaining to much. It's natural to worry. I'm not surprised you are tired. Evidently, the shot has a big effect on you.

Get some extra rest. Your body really needs it.

But I will take that bit of advice from myself....

Crunchy, the enbrel hot line number is 1-888-436-2735. You can get a nurse any time between 8am to 11 pm eastern time 7 days a week. I promise you they will tell you to call your doctor. Nurse heal thyself.Yeah, those damn nurses...that's all they get paid to do..."call your doctor" "wait for the doctors orders"  "blah, blah, blah"
