Water Pills | Arthritis Information

Have any of you taken water pills for prednisone swelling?  I was thinking about trying them and wanted to ask for experiences. Yep! Big help. But you have to take Potassium too. Before my feet would turn red and swell. They were extremely painful. I was also having a lot of bloating in my upper abdomen. It was a little tweak with a big effect.I took one today and I could feel a BIG difference.  Thanks.   What pill did you take, AZ? I think I'm going to have to start taking something.

I take 20 mg Lasix and 10 MEQ Potassium 2 x a day. These were prescribed first by my RA and then increased by my cardiologist. You definitely want to take these earlier in the day. Running to the bathroom is a constant. But it makes you feel lighter because all that water retention goes away.

My feet hurt so much before, I could barely walk.

If you don't take the Potassium, it can cause heart problems. That was part of the reason I was having severe chest pains awhile back. A tweak here and a tweak there makes one just a bit better.

Good to know about the potassium.  I take a regular set of vitamins, but will have to add the potassium.

I bought Diurex water capsules at Target.  I took one pretty early in the day and drank plenty of water.  They are over-the-counter, and I don't know how "safe" they are until I talk to my doctor, but I felt good today -- and lighter.

I don't plan on taking them all the time, btw.  I just have been particularly puffy lately.
arizonara38870.8301851852Glad it made you feel better. He also suggested I eat foods high in potassium like bananas, orange juice, tomatoes and potatoes. I know we are supposed to stay away from the last two, but I can't tell that they bother me.Not all of the diuretics pull potassium so an over the counter diuretic should be okay. And you can always increase your dietary potassium anyways, it wont hurt to have an extra banana or two.  With Lasix which is available by perscription only you absolutly need the potassium supplements.
