Arthritis Information -hair dye/effects

What about dilipatory creame, like nair? My daughter used a similar product starting at age 8 on her legs because she was embarresed of her dark hair on legs. She did fine with it and even was able to use it herself. They sell creams ment for the face too. If you use it, just do a small spot first to make sure she is not sensitive to it---that would go for anyone, especially when useing a product on the face.

What are your daughter's meds. Which one does the doctor believe is causing the facial hair growth?  Have you looked them up on the Internet to see if hirsutism (abnormal hair growth) is a side effect?

I am an RN -- forced to retire early due to what is turning out to be three forms of autoimmune diseases.  Perhaps I can help, as there are alternatives to all meds.  Also, if you can pinpoint the drug, then this will be an alert to all of us, so that we can ask our docs to replace the med with one that does not have this effect.

Also, tell your daughter never to pluck the hairs.  My friend is working for an excellent plastic surgeon, and this Dr. only recommends shaving, if dipiliatories, waxing, or laser treatments are not possible.

It is not true that shaving causes more hair to grow, and it can be a great exfoliator for the face.  Just make sure that the areas to be shaved are very moist with water and a very gentle face soap, and keep rinsing the razor blade between every few strokes.

Afterword, thoroughly rinse and air dry the razor before returning it to the cover cap.  Never use the same razor that is used for any other part of your body.  Have one especially for the face.   Use one marked for sensitive skin.

Rinse the soapy skin well and finish with a cool rinse to close pores.  Use a mild, alcohol and fragrance free toner over the shaved areas using an all-white cotton ball or pad.  Make sure that these pads have the -COTTON- regulation insignia on the package to ensure their purity.

If I know the meds, then I will have my RN friend question her plastic surgeon about them and also what method a young girl is able to use to remove hair besides shaving.

Hope to hear from you.

Hey Guys and Dolls

One of the side effects from one of the many medications our daughter is on has increased  her hair growth on her face/arms. A relative suggested bleaching or dyeing this hair? Do you think she would absorb chemicals into her system from the bleach/dye? She is 11 and waxing is not an option.  Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't know, my daughter is the same age and I have used a sublte highlight on her hair but not on her skin.   I'd suggest consulting a dermatologist or her pediatrician.
