Need Suggestions... | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone;

I need some suggestions and I know that some of you might have found a way to help with this problem.  I am having where I am waking up from  a deep sleep, with my hips just aching like an SOB

                                                      xoxoxoxo  meme

Pamelor never worked for me as well as over the counter tylenol pm...I'd definately ask your doctor about that. Maybe something stronger would help.

I use a lidocane patch for pain. I don't know if you've ever heard of these or used them but I find them very helpful. Their simular to all these patches you can buy over the counter; but those really don't work well for me. I do think these precription ones do though. They are very expensive; but your insurance will pay for them. Maybe ask your doctor about them. You can wear them for 12 hours and then you have to take them off for 12 hours. Might help get you through the night.

Hope you feel better soon Meme; it makes the days so hard when we don't rest well.

Sleep Sweet!!

I've got the patches Lovie for my hands I will try on the hip, I've tried tylenol pm and all it did was make me sick.  yuckIck, Meme.  I feel your pain.  My hips are my worst joint all the time and sleeping is always difficult.  Even on Ambien (which I try to talk only once or twice a week when I need to catch up) I still wake up in pain from the hips.  I wish I had a great solution for you, but just wanted to say that you certainly aren't alone.

Hi Meme,

Sorry to know your in so much pain

I think Lovie's suggestions were good ones.  Another thing I do is no

matter what the time, I make myself a hot tub to soak in.  That with

the tylenol may get you comfortable enough to get back to sleep.

I hope so

take care,

Pam

Does the ambien work 6xmum???   When you are trying to sleep??  Sometimes i feel like the pamelor is doing nothing for me  meme

Most of the time Ambien works pretty well for me.  If I'm having a nasty flare, sometimes it is still hard to sleep.  When I wake up in the morning, I don't feel quite the same as if I had a good night of sleep without the drug (if that makes sense), and for the first while I took it, it gave me wicked visual hallucinations.  But, I don't get those as much anymore (darn ).  6xmum;Thanks for the info.  meme

I take 2 flexeril before going to bed and I do fine for the night, but when I take my daily nap

Can you use a Lidocaine patch at the same time you are taking a regular pain med, in my case Vicodin? I didn't even know they were available.

Barb

Their kind of awkward (I'm not a very good speller; sorry) on places like my knees; but found at night on my hips they are helpful.

I am 46 and have RA and Oa.  My hips have been hit the worst.  There is no cushion between my joints so boy do I know what it is like at night to try and sleep.  I get up at least 5-6 times.  Change positions a million times a night.  I have taken Ambien and Clonipin and Valium, Clonipin works the best as far as no real tired feeling the next day.  But I still woke up.  I have no hope of ever sleeping all night again.  I find that if I lay on my back that is the only way I can keep my hips from dying.  Though any position for too long is painful.  I have done all the things you have done.  I want new hips that would solve that would it not.  I think this disease just sucks the life out of you.  If I find a way to get through a night without hurting I will let you know.  Other than being giving hard core sedatives I think were in this for the long haul.  zanaflex knocked me out for 8 hours a night when i first started taking ut but it caused me more morning stiffness.  after awhile it stopped working so well for sleep.  it's a muscle relaxer but i was on it mainly for sleep.
hugs, wayney
ps...no hangover feeling the next day except when adjusting doses.  or if i was stupid and thought a cocktail with dinner 6 hours before meds would'nt hurt.  ha wrong!
