Our yard isn't even close to some in the neighborhood as to how much grass is tall.  I have been sick and my husband has been running the whole business these past couple months so the yard was neglected a short time.

He went mow the law and weed eat the other day but the stuff wouldn't work.  Then two days ago someone asked about our yard and we said it would be done in the next few days.

He went to buy the weed eater today and while gone i get a call from the city saying our neighbors complained about us not doing the grass.

We just told them it would be done in a few days!  My husband can't do it at the beginning of the week cuz orders have to go out then.

If it was too bad for them, they know how sick I am, they could have mowed our lawn at the same time they did theirs on their riding lawnmower as a nice gesture.

This is the first time in years we neglected the yard.

Not to mention the city lady said our neighbors said we had tall grass and debree, we have nothing in our yard but grass.

Thanks for leting me vent.

People go nuts with that stuff.  Homeowners associations can be even worse!  I really know how you feel.  I got a call once in my old place, and the weeds were about 8 inches high along the edge of the yard.  It was desert landscape but someone called on us.  I was out there with the mower that day.  I know it is hard when you can't get around.   I think some people just enjoy complaining. Some people are only happy if they are making others unhappy. I work in a place like that. It really sucks. I am sorry they called you in. You would think they would have asked if you wanted help since you were sick. It is so mean to call you in!

Did the city ask if you needed someone to cut it for you? My elderly Aunts grass was too tall once and the county sent her a letter telling her to have it cut. They also sent her some names of lawn services (that she'd have to pay for). I often wondered if they where just trying to drum up business.

Do you have any teenagers nearby you could pay to do it? Or better yet ask one of your neighbors who possibly complained to cut it for you. When you explain to them the reason it's not cut maybe they'll feel like an as

1) Print out orders (personalized candy bar and invite business) cut and assemble possibly 100s of bars in a day.

2) Package, weight and take orders to UPS to ship.

3) Shop for needed items (groceries, my medication etc.)

By the time he is done it is already evening around 6-7pm and getting dark and he's tired then he has to answer customer emails, sometimes track packages, he programs websites on the side etc. and he does this just about every day of the week.

So we need to hire someone to work our yard for us.

The neighbors who complained have a perfect yard and I mean "perfect" not a grass hair out of place, proper landscaping etc.

I still can't believe they blamed their rat on us, I told my husband if our yard was like that bad, wouldn't we have rats?

Anyway, the weeks were about 8in like you said and the lawn was getting moved regularly, in fact it was still low enough when they complained to not look bad.  It's just that up against the house it was starting to get long with our weed eater problems.

Needless to say it will be a neighbor war, first thing my husband can call them in for he will.  These people aren't very perfect like they wish they were.  They haven't been good neighbors the whole time and they are always snooping in our yard.

I guess we just need to get past this week and move on.  It just bugs me that we usually are up to everything, I was the one who did the weed wacking until i got sick, did the garden etc.  Just hope i can get there again.

Ugh!  There are neighbors like that in my neighborhood...I guess they are everywhere.  They should have offered to help before complaining.  Do you know for sure the same people who called are the ones you spoke with?  Cause that's really crappy if you just told them that, and then they get on the phone.  Grrrrrrr.  Those kind of people make me mad...give me their number!..lol.Just chalk it up to your neighbors being discontented ppl and go from there.  I have a pile of carpet and padding in my driveway that has been there for a few weeks since I pulled all the carpet out of my living room cause some ding dong before me covered beautiful wood floors.  My neighbors want to say something to me, I'll just tell them to haul it off themselves or wait until I'm damn good and ready after vacation starts since I work 6 days a week and the dump is closed on my day off!!    Why can't people just help you out and cut the grass if it bothers them? Have you explained that you are sick and need help? We are on a green belt and our grass only gets cut a few times a year. Luckily noone sees it because it's away from other people.  In the future I'd like to replace the grass with something that doesn't require maintenance like gravel or cactus garden. Maybe you should think along those lines.

Sounds like your neighbors don't have any friends so they plan on making enemies wherever possible.  Next time you see them out just give them a holler and say "your grass sure looks nice, wanna do mine?

My grass has been mowed three times since the first of April...talk about tall!!!Between RA and a broken mower, oh well.  But I live out in the country back a long lane so no one has to look at it but me, hubby and the dog.  When the kids come over and complain I tell them if they don't like it CUT IT!!!

The worst part is that they are mostly upset with the inside of my yard and the only reason they know what it looks like is cuz they made their back porch so high off the ground they can see right over the fence which I hate, I need a 10ft tall fence to keep their nosey noses out. :)Our HOA are jerks too. My 80 yr old grandmother keeps getting hasseled because she has a very nice bench on her front porch. Apparently they dont think you should be able to sit outside of your own home. What a coincidence! On Wednesday, I received a "letter of violation" from my city's planning and zoning board about an "accumulation of rubbish" in my yard. Evidently my neighbors complained about the firewood that my dog drags all over the yard from my rack. Although I pick it up everyday, the back yard is usually a mess, but you can't see my back yard from the street. It made me feel "trashy" to get that notice, and I am angry that they don't have better things to worry about. These same neighbors have 4 doberman pincher's that get out of the yard on occasion and terrorize the neighborhood, yet I have never made a complaint on them.

I wish I could move to the country and not have to deal with the petty "pretty yard" rules in town! Sorry you are dealing with much the same thing. I wonder when people stopped really "being neighbors"?Don't you love people who can't see the beam in their own eye? I'm so glad we don't have a HOA yet. I hope we never get one, but I'm sure it's coming. Every other neighborhood has one.
