strange question, but has anyone else shrunk?

I used to be 5' 9" but now am only just 5' 7.5"   Not funny!! and its bugging me

How old are you? Have you ever had a bone density scan? Is your doctor aware of it?I'm 25, never had one and not seen new rheumy yet, but sure am gonna mention it! scary stuff, always been tall ish and now i'm nearly short!

that is quite a difference in your height. I know osteoprosis (have no idea how to spell that!!) can cause "shrinkage" but I wouldn't think you'd have that at your age...but I've heard some do.

I'm only 34 and have osteopenia which is the beginning stage of osteoprosis. It only shows up in my hips though...and the only reason they did the bone scan to begin with was because I'm presently going through early menopause which can be associated with bone loss.

How's you figure out the height change?

got measured at new GP's

just wondering if it something to do with all the back trouble and hip stuff recently, oh well, more for the list. I apologise now if i don't reply till the morning, not feeling too clever so off for an early night. Thanks lovie for all your help

I'm not sure I was much help at all. Tomorrow tell me what the GP said about it. Or did you even think to question them? That's the sort of stuff that doesn't cross my mind until I've gotten home and start to replay the days events and then I wonder "Why did I ask them that while I was there?"

Try not to be overly concerned about it right now. You've got far too much on your mind now as it is.

Sleep Sweet my friend. I hope you get the rest you so badly need.

i've got osteoporosis that was dx'ed in 2002 or 2003. so i was 25 or 26.  in looking back over my records from childhood, i was showing osteopenia then.  never took corticosteroids until 2002.  so they termed my osteoporosis as secondary to RA and left it at that. apparently my rheumy was concerned enough to do a bone density scan but not concerned enough to treat it.

Tori I was 5'7 1/2 and yep I think we are shrinking.  I have Osteoarhtritis also so I figure at this rate I am going to be a real short person in the end.  I am 47 never had a weight problem always been thin and now I weight more than I ever have but look pretty much the same.  I dont get that.  Maybe it is all my bones crumbled down together which adds pounds.  I figure that will be the worst of my fears with this stuff.  I would gladly be short and feel good.  Your not alone.Lovie,

Just curious--you said that you are going through early menopause. What caused this to happen to you? I have had some concerns with this also. I am going to ask my doc about it. I am 35 but starting to show what I think might be symptoms but I am not sure. I was told that people that suffer with auto-immune diseases are prone to hit menopause much earlier.
Just wondering what your cause might be.

Thanks
Marcy
