Just wondering how long before surgery one has to stop meds like MTX? I may have to have a ligament repair on my thumb and I am just planning ahead mentally.

You need to call your RD and discuss this with them. I know that depending on the type and seriousness of the surgery will depend on how long you will need to discontinue it prior and later.
