Please help me help a friend | Arthritis Information

I have a very dear friend who needs help.

She had carpal tunnel surgery several years ago and now has nerve damage in both hand.  She suffers from stiffness, swelling and pain in both hands.

She had filed for workers comp but they denied her and told her that cp is not disabling and she has used up all her appeals.

She can no longer work and has only ehr husbands income.  I told her to get a new doctor and see about disability for nerve damage in her hands-isn't that totally different from cp?

Need help to help my friend.  I hate knowing that she hurts so bad that she cries and gets majorly depressed.

Please help.

If she is already at this point, she should go ahead and file for Social Security. Do you know on what basis they denied her Workman's Comp claim?

The only thing I can suggest is to see different doctors. Did she see a neurologist in the process? Has she been evaluated for RA? Does she have tests that prove her medical condition?

Maybe there is some organization outside of Workman's Comp that can review the findings.

She needs treatment though for the pain and the depression. You might want to check the Social Security web site. I believe carpal tunnel is considered a disability. If not there, then Americans with Disabilities (ADA) probably lists it. The conclusion that is not disabiling seems erroneous. There has to be some way to question that.

However, if they consider her able to work and she doesn't want to file SS, I believe she may qualify for unemployment. There is also Vocational Rehab who will also look at her condition and her records to see if she is able to work at anything.

Tough situation.

Deanna thanks for the info.

I have emailed this page to her.  We email daily so I'll keep you posted on how she is doing.

Hopefully she'll even join the gang.

I have read several people's posts on here that they were on workman's comp for carpal tunnel.  I wonder why it would be different with your friend?
