Bad Afternoon | Arthritis Information

This has been a bad afternoon for me. I have been nauseous since late this morning. Oh yes, fatigue somewhat worse and a few sores in my mouth and on my lip.

I just had another thought as to what caused it. The pond water that I drank on my way to Constantinople!!!

Trisha

I don't know much about MTX since I'm not officially diagnosed, but I do know about nausea!  What the heck did you drink pond water for?  I'm kidding about the pond water, but I'm sort of in your boat today too.  I've got a big volunteer even tomorrow that i'm coordinating the food for and i'm stressed out today about it.  I've been half nauseous all day and i'm not sure if it's just nerves, or if my disease (whatever the heck it is --still waiting for bloodwork) or if i'm really getting sick.  i go through phases of feeling somewhat ok, then my hands start to ache and i know i need to rest.  the worst is not having any energy--i can't wait to get diagnosed so i can know what i'm up against and deal with it.  stay away from pond water

Good luck.

Theres a medicine I take 6 hrs after the mtx and it helps with all the side effects. ITs called leucovorin. It helped with nasea mouth sores and fatigue.LOL  Trish.  That damn pond water, you didn't see the spring east of it ????   How much folic acid are you taking?  I took five a day and didn't get the sores anymore.  The best thing for the stomach is that Immodium.  It really helped me.  I am sorry you are going through tough times with mtx.  I totally understand - it is a hard drug for your body to get used to but if you are one of the lucky ones that can handle it - so many people say how it has changed their lives.  I wish I could take it.  Feel better.

Hey Gracie, you have the same birthday as my baby sister.

Can anyone direct me to that pond? I really need to get to Constanople. I have to get those body parts. I promise not to drink the water. Is the spring on the way there? And, how do I avoid that frog thing?

Must be the day for bad days...  I couldn't even get out of bed this morning, took an ibuprofen and layed there for an hour or so before I could even think about putting my feet on the floor again.  Was finally able to stand, but have been so sore from head to toe today.  All the joints in my hands, elbows, ankles and knees feels as if they are going to break at any time.  I did get to take a three hour nap today though that felt wonderful...  I can't wait to get my surgery over with in a few weeks so I can start on some meds!!!

How miserable. Try keeping some water and ibuprofen by your bed. I take tylenol if I wake up in the night, and it makes it easier to move in the morning. But I am not off all my meds.

Sounds like you are doing what you can to survive. Hold in there.

Tylenol does nothing for me, Deanna.  Ibuprefen does the best right now, but I need to stop taking that next week because of it's blood thinning tendency.  That's going to be an interesting two weeks!!!   LOL

Teri,

I really, really feel for you. I don't think I could handle it at all.
Trisha-I had the same problems when my dosage
was first increased. After about 3 weeks it got much
better, and I hardly have any nausea any more.

I also take folic acid and that seems to control most
of the mouth sores.

Hang in there!!
(and stay away from the pond water, k? )

Hi Trisha.

When the mtx makes me nauseous, I take a drug called Motillium (active ingrediant is domperidone). It is an anti-nausea drug, often prescribed to chemo patients.

Nausea is horrible, so I hope it goes away soon.

hey Trish, I noticed a difference between the doses of 12.5 and 15 mg.

There are many meds for nausea, some are expensive and some are cheap but make you sleepy. Here is a good one that comes in generic and wont make you sleepy. It is called Reglan, the generic is metoclopromide. For the mouth sores make sure you are taking 2400-2800mcg of folic acid daily and ora-jel before meals. Dont over use the ora-jel though, it can slow the healing process. Also take ibuprofen to relieve the swelling and pain from the sores. No foods with citric acid (orange/lemon/tomato) and nothing crumbly.

Mouth sores suck. I have always been prone to them, even before MTX. If I forget my folic acid for a few days, I get them really bad.

Also keeping a cup of ice water with a straw to sip on helps to keep your mouth moist and cool.

I thank you all for you replies!!

It means so much when you can get help with this RA, 24 hrs. a day. You gals are awesome.

Gracie, your birthday date & my daughters birthday are the same. She was born on Easter Saturday, April 13, 1963.

About the pond water. If you have read all the post on here you will see that we are all trying to get to Constantinople. I just happened to get involved with a Prince who had a handsome head on a frogs body and smelled like a skunk! It is a long story and if you haven't read it, you better, so you won't think that I'm completely NUTZ-O. You to Tara. LOL  Deanna knows all about the journey! She is lookin for some parts.lol

You girls have a great day!!!!

Trisha

Hey Trisha, I hope you're feeling better now. I'm at 12.5 mg. of MTX - it'll be interesting to see what happens if we increase it next month. I had a round of mouth sores that lasted for 2 weeks. Someone on this board or the Round Table suggested eating yogurt - it really helped. You want yogurt with active cultures. I kind of swished it around in my mouth before swallowing it. And, of course, up the folic acid. That was the other thing I did. Arizonara suggested a banana before you take the MTX, that has also helped.

I tend to try the remedies that people suggest, because they've all been there.

Glad you are feeling better today.  Everyone here is so great...and I learn new stuff every day.  Now about the pond water, I know ya'll are going on a journey...just be careful, you never know what happends in those ponds!!  And maybe I'll pop out behind a tree and join you some time.

Have a great Friday

I've been on MTX for close to three years now I guess. I'm up to 25mg now and pretty much everytime I increase I experience more side effects than usual until my body readjust. It just takes a little while.

I've been bad to get mouth sores on the outside of my lips since I was a child. I don't really think mine are from MTX because I've gotten them since childhood. (THe sun can cause them quick!) Once you've had them a while you feel them before you see them, this is the time to use medication. If you wait until their huge and hurt medication won't help much. I bought some stuff in the drug store called: ViraMedx. It's really expensive but if you get the ones on the outsides of your lips like I do you'd pay just about anything to help them. It's a little tiny bottle of the stuff; but it does last a long time.

I've heard the yogerts a good idea too. No doubt that's a good idea for the ones inside of your mouth.

Hope you continue to feel better!!
