Has anyone every gotten a tattoo while on Enbrel??  I have RA and only take Enbrel.  I want to get a tattoo but I am nervous about my immune system not healing it properly.  What do you all think??? astwall38888.3078472222Well, my Dr. said that even if you have an infection (any kind), you need to
be off the meds. Maybe if you hold the Enbrel for a week, it may not be too
bad. I'd ask your Dr., though, to be sure!

Definately check with your doctor. You might want to hold your meds for a week or too until you have completely healed from the tattoo.

Whatchya gonna get?

Why take the chance?  You have no immune system left, that's the reason RA gets us and the biologics just suppress it more.  Plus there's always the chance of contacting Hep. C no matter how clean and aseptic the artist and studio are.  I wouldn't think it would be worth taking the risk.  I'm being honost with you.  I'm an old surgical nurse and I know the risk you'd be taking.  Highly likely you'd be ok if your Dr. said go ahead but there still is that small percentage of risk.

I have Tattoo's as well.  It is safe as long as you do your homework and get the approval of your RD depending on the meds you are on...he/she may have you stop one or two the week of your tattoo visit.

One thing you must do is to inquire of the type of inks that your tattooist will use.  If they are foriegn made dyes or USA made inks.  You must ask of the sterilization techniques used and if the needles are made on the primises or bought.

Ask how long they have been tattooing...anyone under a 10 year period...I would not use.  It is important for you NOT to get a novice!   It may cost you more...but...Your health is a key...not just the beauty of the artwork on your body!

Inks...some inks used and manufactored in the USA...can contain traces of arsenic...( I think that is the way to spell it)..but anyway...If I can find the article I will post it out here for you.  This can cause big problems with people with Immune Disease!  Ask the manufator of the inks they use...that as well as the Sterilization Processes will be KEY to your tattoo and health.

Just do your research and make sure you are not flaring when you go...ALSO...if you are on Prednisone...you may want to stop it at least 4 -5 days before your tattoo visit.  It can cause you to bleed more if you are on it and your healing of the tattoo will take longer. Don't not take any pain meds before your visit...but at least an hour after...do...this will help with any discomfort you may have afterwards.

ALSO...make sure your Tattooist is bonded and legal with in the state you are being tattooed.

Well, I guess enough said...so here's to happy tattooing...
