plaquenil and kidneys | Arthritis Information

I've been on plaquenil for about 10 months. I just had some blood work done and my GP said one of my kidney tests came back bad. She wants to repeat in 3 months. I will call my RA Monday. Has anyone ever had bad blood work for kidneys when on plaquenil? Pat pat5238890.7802893519 I have been on plaquenil for 4 years with no problems.  I hope you are better soon.Did the doctor say that he/she suspected it was the Plaquenil? RA can affect all the systems in your body. Kidneys is one of those areas than can cause problems.

Deanna,

The nurse said she thought it could be caused by the med but I don't know if I should cut back or stop it. I think my RA will know better. I will call her Mon. Pat

Poof,

Do you have any changes in your vision? My vision is blurrie and sometimes I have a hard time focusing. Pat

I get my blood tested about every 3 mos.  My doc warned me about possible liver and kidney damage. I also get my retinas scanned.  I am also experiencing blurred vision and problems focusing.  I thought it was my contacts.  I also have sjogrens so it's hard to tell.

Sjogrens will definitely cause the blurriness. You need to get your eyes regularly checked by an opthamologist. You can have side effects from plaquenil and prednisone.

If it's the Sjogrens, they can do a lot to help that. One, you put those sterilized eye drops (not Visine) in your eyes. You may have to stop wearing contacts or change the type. Also, use the preservative free gel for your eyes.

They can also put little plastic plugs in the corner of your eyes. They did that for me and it improved my discomfort immensely. I also have tinted lenses for my eyes because of light sensitivity. Before they did that I couldn't hardly read any more. If necessary, they can take if further by adding Retasis to your meds or even do surgery.

But it is extremely critical to see an opthamologist regularly. One of members just found out that she has cataracts after 2 years of prednisone use. I got glaucoma right away and then Sjogren's.

They test me every 4 months for changes that might happen from the Plaquenil and for the glaucoma.

Pat, I definitely would call your doc on Monday and not stop until then. Hey, tomorrow would be even better.

The nurse should have been very clear on what you were supposed to do.

Although, I've missed a couple of days without my Plaquenil and haven't had adverse affects.

Deanna,

I was thinking today is Fri. My brain is tired
