RA Dr. Visit today | Arthritis Information

I went to my Rheumatoid Doctor today. So, So, visit as usual.. She is going to try Remicade for the Rheumatoid Arthritis, Up the Methrotrexate, Flexeril for the muscle spasms and tenderness...and gave me some new drug for Depression ( Cymbalta ). For the Fibromyalgia, she said I may need to look into Pain Management.... Not much help with that part of disease process... except gave me another prescription for sleeping pills to help me rest at night.

I suggested I need to go on out on disability, and rest and  take care of my aching body. She said rest, listening to my body, and don't get so frustrated with the challenges I now face daily.  She suggested I ask my employer for Documents for disability and she would fill them out, and stated the disability :  was my choice.

So, I think that is good news, I only hope my Employer is as willing as the Doctor. I still am not sure about my insurance coverage continuing, but am aware my salary drops to 60%.

At this point I don't care much about the Salary, only tired of the RA & Fibro controling me, I want to try and get some control over the disease and my daily activities, without the Pain, Stiffness, and  have some enjoyment out of the rest of my life.

Any Ideas or Suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

I don't think your work can say anything one way or another. If your doctor is agreeing that you need this, then I believe they have to comply.

I sure understand not feeling good enough to care any more. I'm in the same place.

I guess you need to consider if this is a short term measure or if you want to go on permanent disability. If it is the second, then make sure your doctor also gives you a letter stating that your disability will last over a year to 18 months. If you want to apply for Social Security, you will need that. If you are going the route, then apply as soon as you're able because it takes time to get it and you don't want your disability from work to run out before you get SS.

Sometimes, though, a good rest and a chance for the medications to work will turn things around. It is such a personal decision.

TP215,

I have two friends with Fibromyalgia.  Both were given Cymbalta.  BOTH of them experienced significant reduction in pain.  One said she almost felt normal again.  I know it won't help your RA but maybe you will get some relief from your Fibromyalgia.  Every little bit helps, right?

I will say this, I had a reduction in symptoms when getting on anti-depressants about three weeks ago.  I never knew they could help me so much.  I was always afriad of more pills, but I am glad I got on them.

Sounds like you have good communication with your doctor.  I would just communicate with work minimally.  Don't give them too much information so they don't give you a hard time.  Just ask for the paperwork and leave it at that.  Well, that is how "I" would handle it.

Good luck.
