Hi Everyone!

My name is Michelle and I was diagnosed with R.A. and Fibromyalgia in 2004. My neck, both shoulders, one of my elbows, my two wrists, my knees, my feet, my lower back, my chest and I am not too sure I do not have flares of all places in my nose (All have been effected by R.A and Fibromyalgia). But my real concern at this moment are the side effects of methotrexate and humira. I would like to know if anyone has experienced abnormal menstrual cycles and swelling of the stomach due to these meds???

Please if anyone has experienced these side effects I would greatly appreciate any information you may have.

Thanks alot,

Your friend Michelle

michelle38909.806712963Hi Michelle,

Welcome!  I take MTX and Enbrel. I started the MTX about 2 yrs ago. And, Yes, I did have problems with my periods. At first, I thought that maybe it was just my age, but others here on the board have had the same problem. So, you are not alone with this problem. Feb of this year, my GYN did an ablation and I have been great since.

Good luck to you and Again...Welcome!

Deb

Hi Deb,

Thanks for responding to my question, it is comforting to know that we are not alone out there. And I am glad to say that I am going to see a doctor tomorrow for this problem and I will let you know what they say!

Thanks a million times over,

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I just turned 35 and was diagnosed about 8 months ago w/ Lupus and RA.  I am currently on the following meds:  Humira, Methotrexate, Prednisone, Plaquenil, and coumadin.

I have also experienced problems with my menstrual cycle.  I used to be like clock work and now... oh my goodness!  2 months ago I bled for 18 days straight and was one point away from having to have a transfusion.  I spot regularly now and have no idea when and if my cycle will come or if it does, when it will stop.  I have also experienced the "stomach blow up"  I have never had a big stomach and now I do.

Also, the last few months I have had terrible sores in my mouth - just started a supplement of folic acid for that.

I am anxious to hear if anyone else might know of something to help any of these symptoms.. ??

I have just read your messages.  i did a google search of humira and menstral cycle effects.  i have been on humira for about 3 months and mtx for close to 20 years i have severe psoriatic arthritis.  my menstral cycle is all over the place. i dont know when they are coming, they are really really strange cycles to. What has been the out come has your cycle settled down?

Thanks Flick

I am going to add my two cents and direct all women to the Centers for Disease Control to look at the information about DES, a synthetic hormone given to pregnant women from the 1950s to the late 1990s.  It at first caused cancer in the offspring, so they pulled it from treating pregnant women (it supposedly was to stop miscarriages), then was remarketed as a pre-natal vitamin in smaller doses.  It is now linked to peri and post menopausal autoimmune disease.  So, if you can, ask your Mom is she was prescribed prenatal vitamins.  It all falls into place with the screwy cycles and getting ill.  Take care ~~ Cathy justsaynoemore39463.2059837963
