RA and typing | Arthritis Information

Hello,

At work, I spend mostly 5 hours out of 8 typing. What are your thoughts about typing and RA?

Much appreciated,

Thanks

Have you noticed that your fingers feel worse after typing? I have a lot of finger pain and for some reason I don't feel any worse after typing. I'm not sure if exercising the fingers is recommended or not recommended. That would be a good  question to ask the rheumy. Love and gentle hugs, JuliahHow do your hands feel after typing??  You need to keep mobility in the fingers if it is not bothering you to type 5 hrs a day you should be fine.  Drs will tell you that you need to keep mobility in your joints so that they are able to keep moving.  If you don't do some form of exercise the joints, so to speak, will freeze up and you will lose what mobility you have.  meme

I am looking forward to less typing at work. Hopefully 2 1/2 hours out of 8 will be better over all for the tendons.

Take care.

when I was first dignosed; my hands were my worst joints affected. All these years later they seem to be pretty well under control. I honestly don't have much problems typing. Every once in a while if I have a rough morning it takes me a while to loosen up; but as a whole I'd say No Problem.

Meme makes an excellent point. Typing is great exersise for the hands; and that's very important for all joints. If it affects you too much I'd mention it to your doctor. Could be your meds need some twicking.

I type a whole bunch but also have a lot of joint damage due to not being medicated right away. On the days that im flaring I dont type at all. But other than that im peachy :D Just do the best you can but if it hurts too bad then just take breaks hun, you don't want to push yourself ;/ Typing makes my hands hurt.  On the days that I type a lot, I have a lot of stiffnes and pain in my hand joints and it usually last a couple of days.  If you can try to type slower and in small spurts, I would do that.  Fortunately for me, I no longer have to spend a lot of time on the keyboard day in and day out.  Good luck!

Hi,

When typing yesterday, it came to me that I was pressing my  fingers too hard on the keys, you don't have to do that, I told myself. And, I started practicing typing lightly, like I use to years ago and had never had any  trouble in the fingers.

Thanks to all for contributing your thoughts on this subject to me.
