Hair coloring and MTX | Arthritis Information

Does anyone here who takes MTX have their hair highlighted? I have been on MTX for almost a year with good results..very little side effects except for a headache on the two days after I take the dose (which was helped greatly  by splitting the dose into two). I have had very little hair loss and I think the hair I have loss is a normal amount.

I desperately want to highlight my hair and have read it is not a good idea when you are on MTX.  I have put it off for over a year and ready for a little blonding.

If anyone can give me any input I would appreciate it so much!

Leslie

I take methotrexate and have been colouring my hair for years.  No problems here.Me too.  I'm on mtx and have my hair coloured every 6 weeks (I'm not resigned to going grey yet...)

I don't color often and don't use the amonia based stuff. But that's just me. I hate to color my hair.

Do the test strip and see what happens. I think it's pretty safe. Compared to cancer patients, we are on very low doses.

I color my greys regularly too...this stupid RA may make me feel like I am 110 but I refuse to look it!Me too, no problems here either.

Me too. I've been coloring my hair since I was 16. I don't highlight....I color all over and I've never had a problem.

I say go for it. It's a proven fact if you look good....you'll feel better!!

I just want to have the energy and the mobility to get a hair cut. My hair is really long and it looks pretty. But hot, muggy days, in and out of the swimming pool and getting tangled in the  TENS unit wires --- well, I need to do something. But I can barely walk.

Still, I want a hair cut.

Susan

Thanks everyone!  Your replies were very helpful.

I did read that the non-permanent hair colros were okay, but it was recommended to stay away from bleaching, highlighting, or permanent dyes.  Oh well....guess I will change my mind from wanting to be a  light blonde to being  an improved dirty blonde with fewer greys!
