I took my son to the movies last night. We saw Monster House. It was really good. We had fun. It is nice to take just him and spend some time with him. My daughter was at a sleepover. We had hot dogs and root beer....

Your son will remember those special times when it was just the two of you. Great that you were able to create that memory for both of you.

There are so many people out there in the world that have had near death experiences either from car accidents, or surviving cancer or other illnesses...and in some ways RA doesnt compare to those. But there is something about RA, I guess all of the days when you cant enjoy your kids, you friends and family, your work and your play, your life...that make you really come to appreciate the days when you feel normal. Life is funny that way...Hi Crunchy, I totally agree, my 5 year old stayed home on Friday as he was a bit under the weather, so we went to the Drs together, nothing serious though, so I took him shopping looking for his birthday presents, his birthday is in 2 weeks and he is so excited, (i think I am more excited).  We had lots of fun choosing ideas etc, then we went to the local club and had lunch, he chose toasted cheese s/w and I had a coffee and carrot cake, I felt  so lucky to have this time as I feel like I was robbed of his babyhood and he was robbed of time with me, as I got sick when he was three weeks old with Rheumatoid arthritis and could not feed, change or hold him, I was heartbroken.  My husband had to give up work as none of the meds helped except steroids but not enough to help me cope with the baby.

Anyhow that day was precious to me and he really enjoyed it, he kept cuddling me all night and thanking me, I just hope he doesn't want to stay home from school all the time now.  Although sometimes I secretly wish he could.  Life is too short and children are precious, enjoy them.  Janie.
Crunchy, it's so good to hear that you and your son had a nice time together. It makes nice memories for both of you and it's a nice way to cope with RA. Plas it makes him feel special.

Jane,

Since this day turned out so special for you, you might be able to work out something with his teacher to do this occassionally as long as his work is caught up. Some teachers can be very flexible. It might be something that works out as a reward for a special project, better attention in class, whatever works with your child.

I used to sometimes just go and have lunch with my kids at school. Just out of the blue. That meant so much to them especially since I had a joint custody. It was little things like that built those bonds.

I'm glad you had such a wonderful day.

I definitely have grown to appreciate the exact same sentiment since my RA.  I really feel like as much as RA has cursed me, I have a new found appreciation for life and family.  I will not spend any of the time or emotion I can control in pain, considering I am in enough physicl pain I cannot control.

Sounds like a great date.

I keep my kids home from school sometimes too just to let them sleep in and then to go do something fun like lunch and shopping.  One or two days in a school year dont hurt anything, and they love it when I say time to get up for school...unless you just want to stay home!

Today we went to the circus. It was the last day for them to be in houston. We had a nice time although I wish I had worn my glasses, I was having a hard time seeing even though we werent too far away. I just cant get into the habit of wearing them all of the time. Anyways I really liked seeing the elephants and tigers, and the acrobats. The Ringling Bros. Circus is always neat, I think everyone at some time in their life wonders what it would be like to be a part of it.

It was quite a walk to and from the truck and I was really having some trouble on the way out. By the time we got home and got settled in, I was wiped out. I fell asleep before 7:30.

But we had a good day and we got the DVD of the circus so we can enjoy it again. (Believe it or not the video is the cheapest souvenier they have! Only 12 bucks when the toys and stuffed animals are 15-20!) A few years ago when we went, we bought the video and my kids watched it over and over again.
