CAT Scan Results | Arthritis Information

Well, my Orpethodic surgeon (the nurse) called Friday afternoon with the results from my CAT scan.  She said there is no break and no infection of the bone, so he wants to inject cortizone into the joint next Thursday to see if that helps.  Seems like they are telling me everything is isn't, but not what it is.  I don't hold out much hope for the cortizone injection to work, because when I have taken the predisone, it takes all the swelling and pain away from every part of my body that hurts/swelled, but never that foot and now the swelling and pain is moving up my leg, well past my ankle. At this point, don't care what it is, I just would like to know what it is.

Thanks

Phil

Have they ruled out gout?  it's a form of arthritis...

The cortisone shot might work because it is so targeted. I've had them work in my knees while still taking prednisone. There is a definite difference.

Sometimes, they make the diagnosis based on what actually works. You are still in the diagnosis stage.

Hopefully, this will work for you.

Yes, they ruled out gout.  God I'm hoping that shot works.  My foot is starting to look like a popeye arm, skinny, then fat, then skinny again.

Cortisone shots have always worked well for me - I've had loads in my knees (over the years) and a few in my elbow too. When they work well, the swelling goes down and the pain that is caused by the swelling disappears. It's the only kind of injection I enjoy getting!

Just in case they don't tell you, try and stay off that foot for 24 hours and then keep resting it for a few days. The more you rest it, the better the steroid stays put to do its magic (rather than dispersing around your body). Also, don't be disappointed if it takes a few days to be noticeably improved.  Sometimes the joint  even feels worse for 24 hours, before settling down. But usually you'll see some improvement after a day.

Fingers crossed!

I hope the injections do the trick...I know you were hoping for some answers, but it really is good news that there was no fracture or infection. Good luck...we are all rooting for you!
