Funding for renovations | Arthritis Information

Is anyone aware of grantors for funding to renovate my house to make it handicap accessible? I'm sure there is an agency out there that can help with a one time gift of some kind. Has anyone found it?

The thought that first came to my mind is contacting your local service organizations, such as the Lions Club, Elks, K of C, etc.  My husband is a Lion, and they often assist with similar requests.  Most organizations of this type enjoy assisting members of their own community!

Good luck to you - I wish you well!

Hillhoney, thanks for the reply, I never thought of those organizations, I know the Moose lodge near me needs to donate the funds from there slot machines all the time, I will check with the groups you mentioned, thanks again, Rain

Hi H20 Sign!  (Hi!  Hillhoney, too!)

I hope you are doing well today?  Is it extremely humid in your neighborhood?  It is in mine!  Dreadful, actually!

Your question about funding is an excellent one!  In some states, there are "Independent Living Agencies."  Sometimes these are funded by your home state's government via "tax money."  Sometimes thes agencies might have a part of their officiall name also name the state in which the agency is located, to avoid confusion for people even though the agency is a "charitable organization," giving assistaance and grants; these types are usually funded by raising their own money through friends of the charity, businesses, etc.

In some states, the "meals on wheels" program is funded by these independent living agencies.

Some of the "Social Services" types of offices may have some information about the existence of a similar program in your area!

Public hospital (rehab. or general) may also have this info. within their own Dept. of Social Services.  I would think they'd be happy to share this info. if you just gave them a quick call?

Please do let us know if you were able to find help...please?  If these "leads" do not help, I'd like to continue to try to help you locate asssistance with this!

Hillhoney had some great suggestions!  Really good ones!

Hope this works out for you... very quickly and easily!

Senior Assistance Organizations, for instance, the Senior organization for our town also help the disabled.

Contact http://www.cirs.org/. They will know where to direct you.

Hi Rain!

I have been wondering how this "search" for assistance has been going for you?  Any luck yet?
