my flippin’ feet.. | Arthritis Information

And NO, they arent doing flips. I just didnt want to offend anyone with the real word of choice!

My feet started hurting on Saturday and I thought it was just because my MTX was due Sat night. But here it is Tuesday night and they still (flippin') hurt like hell!

I dont know what to do. I thought the Humira would be doing something now. Enbrel didnt work. Humira not working. MTX not working. I have too much to do to pop pain pills all day, but I dont have much choice. I cant function with them, cant function without them...or so it would seem. Sometimes, alot of times, they dont work anyways.

My hands have been mildly painful and swollen the past few days too. My knees and ankles and wrists hurt. But my FEET. I swear it feels like my toes are broken.

I am just so mad, frustrated, pissed off, tired, and did I mention tired?

Why? How? Nothing is working the way I thought it would. Maybe I was foolish to think I would be feeling so much better by now.

I give up. I resign myself. I am starting to really realize that this is forever.

Yipee. I am so (flippin') excited. I get to be damaged goods for the rest of my life.

My feet just really hurt. Mostly when I stand or walk on them. And after all, what else are they really good for if not for standing and walking?

Maybe I can use them as plant holders....

I am soooo sorry you must go through this.

It is soooo very frustrating!!!!

Please forgive me for keeping th very short response.  I am currently out of my mind with pain!  I will be remembering you in prayer!

Thanks to all!

Hopeful

What terrible news for you both. Had similar, was throwing down pain killers over night like lollies, no effect whatsoever. Went "au natural" today. No pain killers (trying to flush out hoping they'll become effective again but still using main meds.) Slept a lot and used a good old fashioned hot water bottle on some really bad spots all through the day. Everything still sore but I swear, the best I've felt in weeks. Maybe the sleep, who knows with this thing.

Keep trying, and, if you can, keep smiling. Nobody else truly understands what you are going through. Thinking of your trials  and all the others.

My feet are the worse!!!  After my cortizone shot in my left foot, everything eased off and was able to walk without pain......for 4 days, now the pain is back, but different than before.  I can also feel my fingers starting to stiffen up on me, I thought the MTX was finally kicking in, but guess not.  Like I said my feet are the worse, its murder to walk on, but I have to walk.

Phil

Crunchy maybe they are feeling worse because you are favoring your knees and are walking funny??????  Just a thought.  Sorry you are in pain.

Jeanne
Crunchy, I'm going to match your "dirty word" (flippin) with another one I know you really don't like - prednisone.  Do you think you need to take some?  I know how much you hate it, but if you are miserable??? Crunchy,
I know how you feel.  My feet are so bad.  I would wake up in the morning and wonder what I could have possibly done to break all my toes because that is what it felt like.  I was almost walking on my heels to prevent my toes from moving.  I got orthotics...tried every kind of comfortable shoe...I did everything with no relief.  I have found that I can not walk barefoot...that makes it worse.  My new favorite shoes are these sneakers called MBT's (Masai Barefoot Technology).  They have an arched bottom so your foot rolls.  It has really helped my foot and ankle pain and now I am able to walk 6 miles at a time and I use my elliptical machine (all while wearing the shoes).  You should check them out.  I hope you get some relief soon.
Jen
Jen, I have never heard of these MBT shoes before.  Can you tell us more about them?  Where you purchased them, the cost, etc.?  Sounds like we all need them!!

Thanks~~~
I first saw them in this Bliss catalogue I got.  I went online and read more about them.  They advertise them as the worlds smallest gym...and trust me...they really tone your muscles.  I bought mine on ebay...brand new I paid 0.00.  I just bought another pair...because I wear them so much and they came out with some cute spring colors...and for those I paid 0.00 (including tax and shipping).  They are expensive but for me at this point I will do anything to be able to walk without pain.  They are not the best looking shoes in the world either...but I love them.  Check out their website for some more info....

I'm wondering if the extreme heat and humidity aren't affecting our joints?  My carpal tunnel is unbearable and my toes also feel like they are all broken...

I know barometric pressure changes affect migraines and sinus problems, maybe the smaller joints just have no room for expansion with this heat??

I am likely completely wrong, but its my theory and I'm sticking with it.

I think you could be right about the barometric pressure.  Right now it is over 100 here (I am in NY).  My husband gets migraines and he has had one continuous migraine for 4 days now.  And I am still on prednisone and I am feeling stiff also.
Or maybe we are both wrong....but I like the theory.  Crunchy, I was going to mention that I read that people that have reactions to Enbrel sometimes are people with diabetes.  Have you had blood tests and stuff run for your general physical health to be sure you don't have something else going on with the RA?  I know it is a shot in the dark, but I thought of you when I read that.

I know everything is so unpredictable.  I just hope you can get to the bottom of it.  I am sure working on your feet so long isn't helping.  It is hard when you have a lot to do and your body is already spent.  Feel better soon.

Hi!

Sorry so many are in pain today!

Triatha-mom, thanks for the 'lead" on the shoes!  I need some. too!

I have had excellent luck before with the "Dexter" brand, any of their various styles, as long as they have a "walk mocc" sole in them!  They are so comfy!

I have also had some luck with some "Earth" shoes.  I had found some in a fine shoe store and they has very thin (casual dress) look to them.  Often "Earth" shoes have much wider straps, etc.  THese are actually "pretty!"  Everybody asks me what they are wnd where I'd found them.

It's so important to keep one's feet as content as possible!

Hope each of you has a good day/evening!

Crunchy, they make umbrella stands out of elephant feet. Maybe they can turn ours into cane holders?

Crunchy,

I'm sorry to hear you are still in so much misery. A short burst of prednisone might be worth it and give the Humira a chance to work. It  hasn't been that long since you switched from the Enbrel.

Someone was telling me about a new product they found in the drug store called (I think) Walk Fit. He has a bad knee and he says these really help.

Others have suggested taking a frozen water bottle and rolling it with your feet.

I know when I need a diuretic, my feet hurt really bad. But I doubt that is your problem.

It just seems like your disease is not under control. I think you need to call the doc and see what he can offer you.

Quitting nursing might help. All those hours on your feet, I could never do that. I know that you are nowhere near to doing that. But do something, bug the doctor.

And everyday I get mad about this stupid disease.

thanks for the words of support...and yes "prednisone" is such a dirty word!

I too find myself putting more of my weight on my heels, which makes them hurt too, and I think that is also why my knees have been acting up.

I have toyed with idea of quitting all of the meds because I feel like I am not improving, but then I guess I am better than I was when I was diagnosed, so I guess they are doing something.

OH well....thats just the way it is huh?

Oh, you sound so discouraged. You need to let the doctor know that it's just not working for you. Whether or not you go on some prednisone, something's got to change. There are people that have failed at both Enbrel and Humira.

How much MTX are you at? That makes a big difference for me. Please call your doctor.

I am so sorry you are feeling so frustrated right now, Crunchy!

I do know what you mean, at least to some extent!  I have been taking so many meds and I am still in agony, too.

I have no idea as to how you can do your job with all of this pain?  Bless you as you continue to ry to stay "on the job!"

I am in so much pain, too.  I take pain meds upon pain meds and alternative pain treatment meds..like the aniconvulsants (or AED) medications.

I feel so bad when my husband must work full-time and go to get the groceries, the meds and everything...especially when I am relaosed like I am right now.

Contacted the docs office today to try to get some additonal help with pain.  Waited all day.  Husband picked up paper scripts written at doc's office.  They have messed them up again!  They continue to write them wrong and the pharmacy rejects them!  My doc is one of the very best around, but they let some of the interns write the scripts...75% of the time, the scripts cannot be used.  I will wait another whole day tomorrow!  GRRRHHH!!!

Well, just "blowing off some steam!"

I'll be checking tomorrow to see how you all are doing.

In the meantime, I am praying for each individual every night.  This can be such a tough road!  We could all use some extra "comfort," "strength" and inner peace?  I know I could right now!

Take care!
