Yes, my left elbow hurts often. The right seems ok. But it's one of my minor hurts.

Oh yes.  And it seems to be only one elbow, the left one as in Deannas case.  I can tell when it fills with fluid and that's when I experience sharp pains at a certain point in the movement of my arm.  I too have elbow achiness/pain.  It's only my left and it was one of the first joints to hurt... I thought maybe it was tendonitis or sore muscles from lifting and carrying heavy bags for work, but I haven't been doing that for almost two months and it still bothers me, but it's minor compared to other joints...

My elbows are actually worse than my knees - ready for replacement. Yes it it was RA rather than injury.

Strangely enough I feel more of the ache in my wrists than elbow

Susan

Although they say it's symmetrical; I've always got one side that's worse than the other. Doesn't matter what it is.....whether it's my knees, hips, ankles......hands, elbows. One's always worse than the other. I don't think that's uncommon.

Most definitely. In fact, that's the worst for me. Almost unrelenting and very, very painful. Left elbow only with left hand almost useless. I suspect what's happened is that the meds have controlled some of the lesser inflammation so the asymetrical pattern no longer applies, only feeling the remaining "bad spots" including feet and toes. Possibly another factor such as carpal Tunnel. Had elbow X-Ray and nerve conduction test. There's now a difference of opinion between Drs, one gave me a cortisone injection which took away wrist pain but the elbow persists. The rheumy says if the RA can be further controlled it might go away, or it might not. Giving it more time but considering Carpal Tunnel Release down the track. Some posters have reported success, others not. Another one of those red herrings which make it difficult to pin-point the RA?

Hi Susan

My right elbow sometimes gets swollen. Apart from pain, I can't straighten it fully when it flares up.  I've had cortisone injections in the elbow, twice, to very good effect. I might be wrong, but I think it's one of the more unusual joints to play up

do cortosone shots hurt in the elbow because i cant even bend mine i had my share of needles in my shoulder and knee the rheumy said i can 't have any more there.

Hi Debbie

The cortisone shots I had in my elbow didn't hurt. And it's an easy joint to rest afterwards, compared to knees and hips!

I woke up today and couldn't hardly move my right shoulder, went to work and got worser, went to ER and as soon as the found out I had RA they dismissed me even through My shoulder POP evertime I moved it,worked in the yard Mon and think I pop it out of place but they didn't want to here that, but now its soreGRBR69 - have you contacted your doctor?  You should let you Rheumy know what is going on and he may want to get an MRI.  Give him a call today! Thanks Hillhoney, yes I go Mon to my Rhemy for my check up ( he is 3 hrs away) and plan on telling him, today its still swallen and hurts to move, elbows, wrists, knuckles, knees, hips, ankles, toes.....they all hurt, it just depends on what day it is!

I just got a picture of you in my mind like pin the tail on the donkey. Ah, it is so true. I hate when the doctors ask what hurts because the list is long and I'm sure to forget something important.

Did I say I hate RA? I still have a hard time accepting it. I just went through all my medical records and seeing all those tests, bills, diagnosis, doesn't make it real for me.

I just feel like I'm caught in this really bad dream and I'll wake up one day and this won't be part of it. Even stopping work has not made it acceptable to me.

I don't have it! I don't! It's a mistake. It has to be because no one else considers it of consequence.

But the pain is the reminder. The joint that won't move or gives out on me at the wrong time. The terrible fatigue that hits again and again, all these things point to the unacceptable truth.

So, I hate RA. But I refuse to hate me for having it. And, that is the difference when learning to accept it. Hate the disease, hate all that it does, but don't hate yourself for what you cannot change.

I also have pain in my elbow. I have popping sounds in my elbow and shoulder. The RA seems to be more on my left side than my right except both of my hands (especially thumbs) are always painful and swollen.  I really feel the pain on rainy days!!! YUCK!I'm another one with left elbow pain. Right now also back of left knee. I know they say it's a symmetrical disease but I rarely if ever get pains in say both knees, both hands, both shoulders. It jumps around on me. Last week my left hip was hurtiing so bad I cried. The next day it was fine and my right knee hurt. yep, both elbows too. sheesh.  I've got minor joint pain in both, and a really nasty case of tendonitis in my right elbow, its always swollen and hot..
