Hit a Nerve | Arthritis Information

RD put pressure on a place on my shoulder.  Jumped out of my seat.  The pain is just as bad today.  Cannot turn my head and my whole shoulder blade and down my arm HURTS.  What do you do for nerve pain?  This is frustrating.  I have so much packing to do

They'll probably also tell you to ice it and rest, too. I can't stand ice though, and use heat instead.

I hope they can do something for you today. I know that shoulder pain can really keep you down.

Didn't you say that they wanted to give you shots in your shoulders?I bet those would help a lot. But you would still have to be a bit careful with the move. I know that sounds impossible, but just let someone else do the heavy lifting and carrying.

I'm so sorry you are hurting so bad

Gentle hugs,

Nini

Thanks Nini.  I am icing it.  Yesterday I used heat.   Brett had to rig an ice pack on my shoulder with an ace bandage as I can't hold either arm up long to hold ice pack.  I called rd again this morning and his nurse said he said - if it still hurts tomorrow - call your primary physician.  RD won't give me cortizone shots until after the electrical nerve test.  So that is not an option even though, at this point, anything sounds good.  I am laid out on the couch, wrapped like a mummy with ace bandage, looking at one huge mess that needs packing

I cannot lift.  That is one thing I realized awhile ago.  I used to take so much pride in what I could lift and now even the small boxes hurt me.  I do still have a big mouth and those poor moving guys are going to have me on their heels

I hope you feel better soon. Try not to worry about all the packing that needs to be done. You're not the only one in the family that can pack. Delegate sister!! Delegate!

I don't think so Lovie.  It was wierd.  He put pressure on one spot and pain was tremondous.  Come home and it started radiating down my arm and shoulder.  Woke up this morning, cannot turn my head in that direction.  The ice is helping.  I hate icing anything but this was getting ridiculous.  Down day today for sure.  This is one pain that is definitely letting me know to STOP.  I am going to ice on and off all day.  We move in ten days, changed to 19th and now two days off.  GEEESH.  I wish I could get Brett's and Kelsey's butts in gear.  Brett moves boxes for me but has not packed one.  They do all the cooking and dishes but it drives me crazy how much they work in the yard.  ARGH  It is all going to happen.  We have this house until Sept. 1.

I iced it all morning and it feels so much better.  Still taking it easy.  Now I wonder if my problems are nerves.  One thing I do know, no more massages.  That was scary, he did not even press hard.  Thanks for advice guys.  I took  percocet today.  It is so good to not be itching so bad like norco and lortab but it does mess you up.  I am so afraid of addiction, I will be careful how often I take those.  So far, as many drugs as I have taken, I do not feel addicted to anything.  Thank God

Roxy, it is possible that the doc hit on a tendon that's inflamed. That's part of the problem I have in my shoulder. It is a bit concerning that it goes all the way down your arm like that. That's what the OA from my spine does and the shoulder tendonitis do together. If they don't figure out something soon, then ask for xrays of your cervical spine just to be on the safe side.

The problem is that it could be pain from a number of conditions. I can see why your doc wants to wait until the nerve tests. That will help distiniguish it between a nerve, tissue, muscle or tendon problem.

Take the pain medicine. When someone really needs pain medicine they are less likely to become addicted. There are days I take very little pain medicine and other days I must take the maximum.

Also, try putting a pillow behind the half of your back for that shoulder when resting or sleeping. It takes pressure off the muscles and joints and can provide some relief just in itself.

Stop doing anything over your head, reaching up to shelves, cleaning. You cannot move any boxes, even shifting them around. That's going to make everything worse.

You get to be boss. That's your job. You can organize and suggest and conjole, but you cannot do the physical part of this move.

Also, ask about getting a xray for that shoulder.

I know you don't need any more on your list of things to do. But I'm sure the pain will hang around until you have the time.

I feel for you, so much on your plate and a totally uncooperative body. Oh, I know how that feels. It generally sucks.

But you will survive. In fact, I think soon you will be saying, "eat my dust."

For me, the shoulder pain is the worst.  I can work through just about any other joint pain.  The pain radiates down the entire arm.  It wakes me from sleep.  It makes the muscle in my upper arm ache.  I'm taking Motrin for it now.  I don't want to use my Prednisone pak unless I REALLY need it.

I ignored the pain in my left shoulder to the point that I caused damage. The doctor ignored it to. Emma, you really need to get this checked out with x-rays and maybe a MRI.

First, they found that I had a bone cyst, a bone spur and tendonitis with shoulder impingement starting. The other thing that can happen is that you can have a rotator cuff tear. RA can destroy that joint as well.

The other area that might be affected is your cervical spine and the pain is being referred down into your shoulder and can go all the way the length of your arm. I have this problem to with OA in the cervical spine.

The thing is that if you get it diagnosed early enough, it maybe treated with just some PT. If you wait, you may be looking at a surgical repair.

Prednisone does not help this kind of pain at all because it is the tendon and soft muscles that are involved. A cortisone shot is not recommeneded if a tendon might be part of the problem.

I encourage to not life with this pain. Don't accept living with pain until you have ruled out what exactly is causing the pain. When it is central to a joint, get it investigated.

My shoulder was getting to where I couldn't use my whole left arm. It is some better with the exercises. But I've really done some damage to it that I could have avoided had I known.

I really don't want/need to hear this!

Even though I know you are right..........

The wierdest thing is my first onset was THAT SHOULDER !!!!!  RD said I have tendonitis, bursitis, and probably some other soft tissue condition.  I am so sick of all of this as I know you are too.   Heat and Ice have helped.   I made dinner tonight as I felt guilty I did not do anything all day.  Family amazed I cooked
