abdominal pain from exercise. | Arthritis Information

Does anyone experience abdominal pain from doing exercise? I don't have much range of motion in my legs especially raising my leg up . I also have trouble squatting down. If I do it for more than a few seconds, I have trouble getting up again and when I do, I have pain in my legs. I started a water aerobics class that is a bit more challenging than my arthritis one that no longer fits my schedule. I wasa trying to raise my legs. I have pretty severe abdominal pain on one side right at the bend of my waist. I'm hoping it's not a return of the diverticulitis but since it occured during and after my class, I think it might be hip/leg related pain. The fibromyalgia along with OA and RA can make it tricky to figure out what's going on. I See the rheumy on Monday but she often defers to my GP if she thinks it's non RA related. I don't know whether to take my enbrel or not. I've been off it so many times, I don't want to go off again unless I really have to.  I am also having my teeth cleaned. Does anyone have trouble with that being on immune suppressant meds?

Linda,

I don't know what to really tell you. This certainly could be a RA problem. But abdominal pain can be from a lot of things like your liver, gallbladder, female problems, hernias. Until you are examined, I don't think you can really guess at this.

Definitely bring it up. If the pain increases significantly, do not hesitate to go the emergency room. Your bowels might be causing problems, you could have an ulcer---too many things. But significant abdominal pain usually requires some tests, including a x-ray.

Can you possibly get into your GP this week?

I think you should ease off the exercise until you know what is causing it.

If nothing else, CALL YOUR DOCTOR and ask these questions.

Thanks Deanna, I see my rheumy on Monday but if the pain is still a problem tomorrow I'm going to try to see the GP. I feel like I practically live in his office. The pain is better now that I'm not exercising.

Sounds like a good plan. You sure have had enough going on. But, listen, girl, you still did Rome. I'm very impressed with that kind of spirit of adventure in light of all you've being living through.

I hope it is something mild. Maybe it is all irritated from the diverticulitis.

Hope so. Thanks for your input Deanna. Linda
