Insurance troubles | Arthritis Information

I hate insurance companies!!!!! So far I haven't got the approval for my surgery. They approve one hospital but I don't want to go there as I want to go to the one where I work. If I go there, I don't have to pay my co-pay. I'm not getting disability and I have to make every penny count.
The hospital that the insurance wants me to go to is old and it's in money trouble. There's very little parking and the area where it's located is run down. I don't want to go there!!!!

Marisa,

See if your doctor can work some kind of override. Also, the quality of the surgical area is very critical to reduce the chance of infection. If you doctor cannot work something, then maybe you can talk to your insurance's medical case manager. But I'd try your doctor first. Sometimes they have more clout. Just explain the reasons why and push for it.

Keep us posted on what develops. I know essential this is for you.

Yes, I agree with Deanna. Fight to go where you feel more secure. Insurance companies suck.

Record every step of this process, every person you talk to, the outcome of everything. You need to let them know that if they put you in a rundown hospital and something bad happens, you will hold them strictly accountable.

Yeah, I agree insurance companies don't really care about the type of treatment you get, only about the cheapest way to go.  I have to drive almost 2 hours to see my RD because no doctors in my city will take them any more.  Although I can see out of network and my insurance company has reluctantly agreed to pay in-network, I have to pay the cost up front then get re-imbursed.  I just don't have that extra 200-300 laying around.

Oh yes insurance companies are thorn in everybodys side, ask you doc if he can say that the other hospital doesn't have the medical attention that is required for your surgery, there is a loop hole in every thing, you pay the insurance company your money you should be able to choose where you want to go
