I am curious to find out just how many of us suffer with pain or extreme stiffness in our feet?

I have pain in both, mostly the arches but it can be in other areas as well.  I get very stiff - all over in them including the ankels.  The stiffness has to be "walked out".  I wear orthodics - and it hasn't helped.  I also get numbness and tingling when I am on them alot.

Who else hurts?  Does anything out there help?

Please share and thanks! Jody

Trixie6638940.8512731481Most of the discomfort I have is in my feet, ankles and lower legs. Most days it's just stiffness for a bit after getting up in the morning. I feel very lucky that it's not worse than that.  But if I'm on my feet all day teaching then my feet are done in by the end of the day - as is the rest of me!  I try to sit as much as I can on those days and wear comfy shoes. Haven't yet had the nerve to wear my comfy slippers, but I may get there yet.  Sorry I don't have any helpful tips on what helps - other than not standing up. Big help that is!    Hi Jody,
I get the pain in my feet/ankle area. I also get the numbness and tingling after I've been on them for a long time. What helps me is to get off the feet. Put on the most comfortable shoes or slippers I have. They can't have a heel or wedge on them. I prop them up too. At night, I sleep with a pillow under my feet. If they are hurting really bad, I place the heating pad on them. The heat helps. I make sure that I take my meds, Advil and Ultram. For the stiffness, I try to wiggle my toes or reach for a object with my foot. It hurts but at least I'm trying. Plus I tell my RA doc how they feel and make sure that he's kept up to speed on how the meds are helping or not helping me.
   Hope that this helps,

MarisaDo you ever find that the pain in your feet seems to explode when you take weight off of them?  That's what mine are like if I have been on them a long time.  They hurt a lot and make we want to sit down and rest them, but then when I do they hurt even more!  It's a no win situation.    Hillhoney, it happens to me. The one ankle will be throbbing and I get off my feet only to have it hurt more. When it's like that, I have to move the ankle/foot while sitting down and then try to stand on it. If I can, then I try to walk a few inches while hanging on to something. I don't go far and then I go back to sitting. It drives me nuts as I may have to do this several times before the foot/ankle get the idea that I'm trying to relief them! Dumb foot!!!

Yes I have very serios problems with my feet/ankles. I can walk without a cane since I stopped remodeling my house and went on Arava. I have to take breaks and massage them and stretch them out. my toes are getting nodules on the joints/ankles warm and red or purple. I feel like knives are being stabbed into them at times or that i'm walking on sharp stones. I try to love them and take care of them the best I can. they are most probably the most abused part of our bodies-well except our brains that have to deal with all of this.

PeaceMost of my problems in my feet are the toes, they feel like they are in splints!!  They don't move!!   Also, my right heel, under the foot, constantly hurts, even when I'm off my feet.  They feel "tight".   My issues are rather minor compared to many here, but I did want to mention the problem I have with one toe.

It is THIS TOE that brought me to the doc to begin with back in Dec 2005.  Recently I heard this pain referred to as "it feels like it is broken."  I have had that EXACT thought go through my mind.  Fortunately, it only hurts like that if I am on my feet for awhile.  For instance, I can walk 2 miles before it hurts in this way...so I am not REALLY complaining.  It used to start hurting like that after 2/10 of a mile!

But I have often thought that it might be the one part of RA that helps me identify with those of you that have this kind of pain in many joints.  And I wonder just how you cope with it because it is so intense.  And I send up a silent prayer for all of you when this happens.

One other thing, I have had to stop my MTX and Motrin for upcoming surgery next week and after two days off my Motrin, I have already noticed that my feet have been cramping alot the last two nights (last night worse than the night before).  I was only taking 600mg twice a day but it has obviously been doing something for me.  I have  considered stopping it because I didn't think I needed it any more, so this has been a good test for me.

The pain in my feet is/was mostly in the morning. I used to get out of bed and walk like Frankenstein for about 15 min. Now that I've started Enbrel (9th week) it defintely has gotten better. I do however get pain only sometimes when on a walk. I try to walk maybe 2 miles or so and sometimes by the end of the walk I'm limping and definitely going slow. That pain is usually around where the toes are joined to the foot - that 1st joint. Make sense? Tammy,  Your description is exactly how my feet are.  They are like walking on sharp stones if I walk on them long or sometimes first thing in the morning.  My toes are very deformed and have big red marks on them.  When they are flaring, the joints look like the are trying to poke out of the skin.  It is so depressing.  I used to always joke that I had the prettiest feet - not anymore

Feet hurting?  Oh my goodness!  I have such a hard time trying to walk in the morning!  The 1st time I saw Hillhoney's avater, I'd started laughing so, as it was just like me in the morning!

Ankes, feet, knees, etc.!   Ouch!  They are very painful in the AM.  They often continue painful and tend to worsen as time goes on if I am on them.  I just cannnot be on them for very long.  If I go on errands with my hubby for three hours, for instance, my pain increases significantly.  my knees and ankles swell.  My thighs and calves hurt.  My feet hurt all over, including the toes.  SOmetimes, they will continue the next day in a severe manner, too.  It is very disappointing.

Today, I am in so much pain for what little I'd done yesterday.  Finger joints are screaming, as are knees, ankle joints, feet, toe joints, cervical neck, thighs, glutes, etc.  I am in agony... even with the recent increase in morphine.

Some people are havin great luck with the topical NSAID creams.  They can rub the cream into their feet!  On that thought, I am off to do just that!  I had forgotten to do it today, I was soooooo tired!

Others try cpasaicin products on their feet!  Either works for many people!

Hope every one gets some relief! Now!

My feet hurting is what finally made me seek out a rheumy. My toes are excruciating, and when I step down to go down the stairs, the pain actually made me flicjh back so hard I fell down the stairs at least twice.  I feel like I am walking on jagged hot rocks.

At night I can't take the weight  of even a sheet on my toes, when I am lying on my back.

My ankles ache too. I got my remicade yesterday and  today  the toes (well everything ) are much better. What drives me nuts is there is very little deformity, except the toes are a little crooked, but it still hurts so bad.

I soak them, massage them,  wear ONLY comfy shoes, good sneakers or slippers.  I don't own any shoes with heels.

My feet is also what made me go see my GP last May. I had never had so much swelling in my feet... it was really bad. I found out later, the swelling really was from my ankle, but the top of my foot was so swollen you could hardly see my toes. My feet are very stiff in the morning, but it is my ankle that bothers me the most. It seems that when I wake up, my ankles are frozen. When I walk around, they loosen and crack and then really start to loosen up. My knees are the same way. My bathroom is downstairs. I look so funny going down in the morning. I wake as late as I can for work...because I don't get a lot of sleep at night. The sheets feel like steel wool on my skin sometimes. When I get home from work (which is 8 hours on my feet), I have a hard time getting my shoes and socks off.
