Vitamin supplements | Arthritis Information

Just wondering if anyone takes vitamin supplements. If so which ones.
Funny you should ask> as I just started this week taking a B complex every day. So far I don't notice any difference. I pretty much have good days and bad days like everyone else here I guess.I was reading that fish oil and selenium were very good for inflamation.
Over 2 years ago I was religious about a breakfast drink I had consisting of 1 cup Blueberries 1 TBPS flaxoil ( Barleans) and 1/4 cup cottage cheese. Then I would add orange juice. Funny, I didnt have any RA then.

I am now going to modify that a little and replace the orange juice with soy milk and add spiralina another antioxident. I was wondering if I should add more vitamins.
And wondering if others are considering adding antioxidents and vitamins to thier daily meals.
I dont know much about vitamin B except its suppose to help with depression I think.

I take calcium/magnesium supplements, folic acid, glucosamine/chrondroitin, Co-Q10, Fish Oil  and a multi-vitamin every day.  I've been taking them for years and I feel better when I do.  The magnesium solved my restless leg symptoms, the Co-Q10 helps with my blood pressue and heart palpitations (caused by my thyroid medication), the fish oil is for cardiovascular health but helps with inflammation, and of course, glucosamine/chrondroitin helps my joints.

I stay away from anything with soy because of my thyroid disease.  There are studies linking soy to thyroid cancer and I don't need that!
I wish I didnt have to do the soy thing but I'm lactose intolerant. I think that may be my only other choice.

I take the following:

Multi-vitamin

Folic Acid

Biotin

Calcium with D

MSM and

Fish oil

Vitamins and supplements?  Hmmmm...  I have spent many years studying "nutritional healing."  I was a huge advocate for many, many years!  I still think it is all worth a try, as long as it is nothing that is going to harm you!

The B vitamins are quite important to the nervous system, for sure.  Most of the various types of "anti-oxidants" also can help out!  COQ10 is great, in my opinion.  This actually is targeted toward the cellular mitochondria, which are the "energy factories" within the cells (If you'll allow that loose explanation). 

 Another mitochondrial energizer is acetyl-L-Carnitine.  (This is very different than L-carnitine.) The acetylized form actually penetrates the blood/brain barrier. 

A truly wonderful anti-inflammatory is Wobenzym N.  Love it!  I had taken it every day for many years...had inflammation and pain under control.  I cannot take it anymore, I am told, because I take coumadin to th in my blood for the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.  (Wobenzym N also thins the blood.  I would highly recommend them to any one with inflammatory pain.  The research on thes proteolytic enzymes is amazing!

Recently, this company has started advertising in arthritis magazines.  (RE:  WobenzymN)

The flax seed oil also helps with inflammation and I feel better on it.

There are a lot of good nutrients and foods that can be helpful. We usually talk a lot about the medicines that we take, but I think that learning about good nutrition and supplements that have been proven to help is really good.

It nice to hear what is working for others. Cherries and cherry juice are also very good.

I can't tolerate fish oil. It hurts my stomach. So, I try and eat fish like tuna and salmon.

I would like to read that book that Tam mentioned in her posting.

I use flax seeds in my daily smoothie (with protein powder/blueberries/strawberries/raspberries), fish oil caps, a good multi vit./min. MSM, protein powder, vit. c., folic acid, selenium, probiotics and a glucosamine/MSM/chondroitin pain/joint cream.

Thinkthinn...there are several lactose free whey protein powders out there. Also, you can use egg protein powders, they are at most online retailers of supplements. Let me know if you need more info or any links.

I love the idea of the smoothie. Put it all in in one shake and you know what your getting. I saw a whey protein powder at whole foods. Lactose free.

BarbI take folic acid and a muti vitiamSmoothies are great! You can pack so much nutrition in a simple, great tasting shake and it's actually a meal. I sometimes use a scoop of "Greens" in my smoothies for added nutrition.

I take MSM Glucosamine 1 three times a day and  Flax oil 1TBS. 3 times a day.  I also take Folic Acid and B12(when I remember to pick it up) I make fresh juices like carrot and apple a couple times a week.  I really feel better when I am diligent and stick with the supplements and juices.  Just need to work on the exercise. I am trying to get with the program.

I also take: metx, plaquenil, pred as needed and naproxen as needed

I take:

Folic Acid, Multi-Vitamin, Fish Oil and L-Glutamine.  The fish oil definitely helps with the inflammation and L-Glutamine with the GI tract. 

My blood test results are better than ever since I have been consistently on this regimen.  My meds are Arava, Prednisone, Prevacid, Sular, Toprol, Diovan and Humira.  I think the folic acid has really helped my liver.
