Does anyone know anything about nodules forming on the bone? I have one on my thumb, some forming on my toe joints but one that is scaring me on the bottom of my rib cage in my back-have appt w/Rheumy in couple wks. I have read that they are non-tender but mine hurt around nodule very bad & I know where they are going to start because of the pain that occurs in that area prior. Does this sound familiar to anyone? HELP!In my many readings, I read that some ppl get RA nodules.   Have you done an internet search on them?

Hi Terri,

Yes I have done internet searches but some of what I have read does not agree with my symptoms. As a matter of fact, I have found that those who actually have personal experience with a symptom seem to be more helpful than research, doctor's, etc.. The nodules I have are like a bone and are not supposed to be tender but are VERY tender. May not be the same thing I'm finding on the net?

hi tam, rheumatoid nodules were my first symptom of ra.  i had one on the pad of my middle finger r hand and one on the pad on the sole of my r foot roughly under the big toe joint.  i had them both removed in 2003 and the path report came back rheumatoid nodules in both cases.  it seems that the one on my finger was quite sensitive. the one on my foot bothered me because it made that shoe tight and i was walking on it all the time.  afterwards i lost feeling at the end of that finger but no problems with the foot surgery.  and no re-occurance which i understand often time happens.  but they really arn't anything to worry about.  hope this helps.

I hope someone here can help you out!  I know that first hand knowledge is better than anything else!

Hi Tammy

I have 6 nodules around my left wrist which are tender to touch but because I have had them for so long I suppose that I have got used to them.  I once asked my doc if I could have them removed, but he said it wasn't as simple a procedure due to tissues, ligaments and nerve positioning, so I gave up on this.  I also have large nodules on my knuckles but these don't hurt so much.  I have often wanted to find out more about them!!  Let me know what your doc says.....

However I am very conscious of them as I work in a large 11-19 school in London and the kids often ask me whats wrong with my hands!!!  but hey at least I can still move them to a certain extent!!

Good Luck

Lisa (London)

Thank you Lisa & Starmom, I appreciate your input. I feel better knowing that it is just part of the disease and that others have ones that hurt. I will let you know what rheumy says. I feel greatful too that I can still do things and even walk. I've gotten over the odd stares and questions about whats wrong with me, but that was a difficult thing to deal with for uite awhile. Thanks again!
